This position will work a hybrid schedule which includes a combination of working both onsite at the Altman Clinical and Translational Research Institute and remote.
DESCRIPTION
The Altman Clinical and Translational Research Institute (ACTRI), an organized research unit at UCSD, was established to provide education, training and infrastructure for clinical research in the San Diego area that encompasses four hospital systems, two universities and four biomedical research organizations. The mission of the ACTRI is to create an environment that advances health care through interactions between basic scientists, clinical investigators, community physicians, and patients.
The Communications Specialist contributes to and implements a comprehensive communications strategy across the ACTRI's social media channels (Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, etc.), website and written newsletters to increase awareness for the institution's research, education, and community impact. Working closely with ACTRI unit leaders and UCSD Health Marketing and Communications colleagues, this position will plan and develop content to manage, maintain, and grow our social media channels.
The Communications Specialist will work closely with Marketing and Communications to create, edit, update and integrate digital data for managed websites and related functions. They are responsible for regular posting of news, content and campaigns on the institution's social channels, maintaining a cross-channel content calendar, posting the right content at the right time and platform to maximize engagement. This position builds and nurtures online communities, actively engages with users, and implements processes and procedures to regularly test, analyze and improve digital engagement.
The specialist is an expert when it comes to the latest social platforms, tools and technologies. They drive social media efforts, stay on the leading-edge of trends and technologies, are creative content creators, and advocate for new approaches that advance communications objectives. As a member of the communications team, the specialist also possesses excellent writing skills to translate scientific concepts in an engaging way.
The specialist will work across ACTRI units, including the Center for Community Health and other Population Science areas, involving bilingual communications (Spanish/English) to reach key audiences across southern California. Support communications and coordination for the San Diego County Childhood Obesity Initiative (COI). The COI is a public-private partnership applying a collective impact approach to address policy, system, and environmental changes impacting children's health.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Seven (7) years of related experience, education/training, OR a Bachelor's degree in related area plus three (3) years of related experience/training.
Must be bilingual. Fluent in English and Spanish.
Knowledge of all aspects of communications, including strategic planning for various media venues, technical aspects and requirements of various venues, and most appropriate and effective applications. Thorough expertise and proficiency in digital media content creation and administration. Experience developing creative, engaging, strategic content across a variety of social media platforms.
Thorough knowledge of location protocols and channels for communication internally and externally. Extensive skills in audience targeting, and experience with generating organic growth.
Proven working knowledge of delivering public educational programs. Thorough working knowledge of current public education programs and trends. Experience working with community-based organizations, direct health-services providers, researchers, professional associations, and businesses. Demonstrated working skills to produce and deliver programs and conducting needs assessment.
Proven understanding of technical applications to effectively direct technical staff, or personally perform technical work, including design concepts, various media, and applications.
