OverviewUniversity Development and Alumni Relations (UDAR) is dedicated to soliciting the private funding necessary to support the strategic goals of the University in teaching, learning, and research. The personnel of UDAR work university-wide as well as within individual schools and colleges of the University to discover, motivate, cultivate, solicit, and steward alumni, parents, faculty, and friends for immediate, long-range, and future financial support, through gifts and pledges to the University, for critical operations such as student aid, faculty support, academic and research program development, and facilities and infrastructure. UDAR's endeavors raise funds for immediate University use and also for the University's endowment.
The Director of Development, Leadership Annual Giving (DoD), will be an essential leader in solidifying the philanthropic connection between annual giving and major giving at NYU. Working with key prospects from all constituencies of supporters to New York University, the DoD will lead a team of fundraisers to help develop the next generation of altruistic supporters to the University. Reporting to the Assistant Vice President, Annual Giving & Engagement Strategies, the selected candidate will need to be an energetic and enthusiastic fundraiser, while also embodying thoughtful and inclusive leadership as a manager.
The Director of Development will engage in fundraising goals from mid-level giving prospects in the 5-6 figure range, conduct meetings with alumni, friends, parents, and volunteers throughout the year, and travel, both locally and nationally, as needed to high-density regions. The DoD will manage the long-term vision, strategy, and day-to-day requirements for a team of five (5) Leadership Annual Giving Officers and other support staff, including strategic planning, team logistics, individual moves management, and internal staff meetings. As a strategic thought partner, this role will partner with key stakeholders to develop seamless integration with the NYU Direct Marketing team, NYU Alumni Relations, and liaise with colleagues across the department and at all levels of University leadership to elevate the profile of Annual Giving and lend to the University-wide culture of philanthropy.

ResponsibilitiesRequired Education:
Bachelor's Degree
Required Experience:
7+ years of experience, or equivalent combination of experience and education.
Preferred Experience:
Experience fundraising in an academic and/or non-profit environment and/or project management.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Demonstrated ability to meet fundraising goals and effectively interact with donor prospects. Demonstrated management and teamwork skills. Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to take initiative and collaborate with others. Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, database, and desktop publishing applications.
