The UAB Department of Physics, https://www.uab.edu/cas/physics/, invites applications for a full time [9- or 12-month] non-tenure-earning Assistant Professor position focused on Distance-Accessible STEMM Learning and Outreach through Astronomy Education. The successful candidate is expected to participate in all departmental activities, apply STEMM Education Research in distance-accessible Astronomy and Physics curriculum development, and teach and engage a diverse student population. Duties include teaching Astronomy and Physics introductory courses, distance-accessible course design, incorporation of evidence-based teaching practices and active learning environments in physics and astronomy courses, design of hands-on astronomy laboratory activities, astronomy outreach, seeking extramural funding, and supervision of instructors and GTAs. The faculty member will contribute to project RAISE (Remotely Accessible Interdisciplinary STEMM Education) departmental efforts, which emphasize student self-efficacy and development in computational reasoning, data literacy, digital skills, interdisciplinary collaboration, and scientific communication. The faculty member will support college efforts in data and digital literacy and enhance the UAB Physics student-centric approach by engaging our undergraduate students in project-based learning. Requirements include experience as primary course instructor in Astronomy at the university level, knowledge of best practices for curriculum development, evidence-based distance-accessible instructional design experience in physics and astronomy, LMS programming experience, and a Ph.D. in Physics, Astronomy, Astrophysics, or related field.
