Position Summary:
Cardozo's Communications and Public Affairs unit seeks an accomplished writer, editor and content coordinator as part of an outstanding team of professionals charged with internal and external communications for a leading New York City law school. Reporting to the Associate Dean of Communications and Public Affairs.
The Communications Associate for News, Events and Publications is part of a team that highlights Cardozo's achievements and works to enhance the reputation of the law school that created The Innocence Project and other innovative justice-forward programs and produces ethical, practice-ready lawyers.
The Associate is responsible for tracking all Cardozo news stories in the media, writing and editing news stories and publishing them on the Cardozo website, generating a weekly news brief for digital distribution, and working with a four-person communications team as assigned. In addition, this person will be writing for Cardozo's annual alumni magazine, Cardozo Life. Candidates must demonstrate excellent writing, proofing, editing, and publishing skills in both digital and print formats.
Currently this position is a hybrid role, with some flexibility in working from home.
Position Responsibilities:
- Primary responsibility for tracking and compiling all news stories featuring professors or the law school in media, using Meltwater and other alert systems
- Compose, edit, and distribute weekly news brief, which is sent to students, faculty, administrators, and YU leadership
- Keep up-to-date various mailing lists for digital distribution
- Write draft press releases
- Cover student and faculty events, keeping track of the event calendar and ensuring that all events are carefully assigned and written up for website news section
- Write, edit, proof stories for the alumni magazine
- Assist in writing/editing/proofing and managing design team for brochures for various programs and centers
- Coordinate public relations requests with our outside PR team and within the law school Editorial Board at weekly meetings.
- Social Media posting for events and news
- Update content to the Cardozo website
- Keep track of photography, arrange photo shoots for story production
- Work closely with other team members to ensure smooth operation generally, and especially during vacations
Experience & Educational Background:
- Bachelor's Degree in communications, journalism or related major
- 2+ Years experience in communications field
- Experience in higher education a significant plus
- Familiarity with legal issues a significant plus
- Ability to work within a supportive team environment, with frequent competing deadlines
- Project management skills
- Expert writing, proofing and editing skills
- Strong digital communications experience a must
- Experience with website management in Drupal CMS preferred
- Familiar with Hubspot and Salesforce CRM email systems preferable, or willingness and ability to be trained
- Strong interpersonal skills required

- Excellent verbal and written communications skills
- Helps create a positive working environment to meet and manage multiple deadlines
- Some evenings may be required to cover events
