This position will work as a research professional primarily supporting the Patient & Family Centered Research (PFCR) Initiative in the Center for Learning Health System Sciences (CLHSS) and secondly the Division of Computational Health Sciences (CHS) in the Department of Surgery. The primary responsibilities of this role will be to take over leading the PFCR initiative, developing strategy, goals, and a work plan for implementation to ensure that patients, families, and the community are represented and an active participant in CLHSS research operations. The ROS time will be split approximately 2/3 with CLHSS and 1/3 with CHS.
The ROS will report to the Strategic Partnerships & Finance Director, CLHSS. This position receives minimal guidance and requires the ability to work well independently and as part of a team. The successful candidate will have strong analytical, organization, project management, and communication (written and oral) skills to guide patient and family centered research initiatives and operations processes. This position also requires a high tolerance for ambiguity to research and develop solutions to undefined research program topics and will serve as a resource for CLHSS team members.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Patient and Family Centered Research (55%):
Develop strategy, goals, and a work plan for implementation to ensure that patients, families, and the community are represented and an active participant in CLHSS research operations.
Establish a Patient Partner Council for CLHSS leadership and individual programs as needed.
Identify and pursue grant opportunities to support PFCR.
Partner with Communications Associate to promote PFCR opportunities and ensure patient-centered language is integrated throughout written materials.
Establish and maintain relationships with community groups as sources of patient partners.
Serve as primary contact for all patient/caregiver partners.
Establish and maintain relationships with individuals overseeing patient/family advisor efforts at partner institutions.
Build and maintain a dynamic repository of national and global patient-centered research efforts and results for publication, dissemination, and ongoing learning.
Computational Health Sciences Division Administration (35%):
Lead the division operations by developing research administrative and operational workflow in compliance with UMN standards.
Support the CHS Chief and faculty with administrative services including complex schedule coordination.
Assist in recruitment process and logistics of hiring and onboarding of new faculty, staff and trainees
Manage onsite office space and equipment
Purchase general business materials, software and supplies for faculty and staff in compliance with UMN purchasing policy and best practices
Coordinate grant post-award management including institutional and sponsor reporting requirements and financials with assigned Department of Surgery (DoS) finance support
Work with the faculty and in collaboration with other communications professionals (DoS Communications, CLHSS Comm. Assoc.) to develop content and maintain CHS website
Develop strategies to promote the visibility of research activities of CHS faculty to the university, the community and media
Maintain an archive of published manuscripts, grant proposals and awards including faculty biosketches and related materials
Engagement Coordination (10%):
At the direction of the Administrative Manager, support the planning and implementation of seminars, workshops, and conferences hosted by CLHSS and CHS with attendance ranging from several dozen to several hundred. This includes continued educational opportunities for PFCR.
Work Arrangements: This position follows UMN Work. With Flexibility guidelines. Currently, the position will be mostly working from home. There will be occasional needs to be on campus to support live, in person events and over time there may be a need to set a regular schedule for a few days on campus each week. Work hours should follow a regular schedule generally between 7am-5pm, M-F.
Salary range: $70-75K/year

Required Qualifications: BA/BS and at least 5 years of experience or advanced degree and 3 years of experience or a combination of related education and work experience equal to nine years At least 2 years of experience in a health-related research setting. Experience with patient and family centered research Demonstrated ability to collaborate with diverse communities Strong analytical skills with established organization and project management strategies to keep track of details in the context of the larger objectives and manage multiple responsibilities and projects. Excellent interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills. Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
