Position Overview
The Tufts Pre-College team and the Tufts Environmental Studies Program are currently seeking a Program Instructor for the 2-week Climate Resilience Institute (CRI). This is a summer program offered to rising High School juniors, seniors, and graduating seniors. The goal of this program is to teach students about the interdisplinary nature of contemporary environmental issues and how they impact climate resilience. Students will learn from diverse voices and leading scholars and practitioners at the front lines of environmental science, policy, justice, and climate activism through a combination of lectures by the lead instructor and other experts in the field. Students will have the opportunity to go on several field trips, supplementing in-class instruction and introducing students to the broad array of career paths available in the vast environmental field. The program has a strong focus on hands-on learning and culminates with the completion of a capstone project that involves data collection, analysis and visualization. The Climate Resilience Institute will take place over two weeks during July 21st ? August 1st, 2025. The days are typically divided into lectures, interactive discussions or fieldtrips and group work on the capstone project. Compensation
The total compensation for the Climate Resilience Institute Program Instructor position, inclusive of all planning and program time, is $9,973 (standard summer instructor rate).
Responsibilities
As a Program Instructor, your duties include, but are not limited to:
Hiring
Identify and recruit your CAs
Program Planning
Coordinate with CAs, set-up Canvas site, designs classroom sessions, or other resources as needed
Develop and refine Climate Resilience Institute curriculum and syllabus
Identify and recruit guest speakers
Design summer program schedule, including field trips as well as any opening and closing activities, in coordination with the Environmental Studies Program.
Plan final project for students prior to program start
Operations
Lead and instruct a group of students in an in-person instructional setting, maintaining high standards for behavior and safety
Attend all program events from July 21st - August 1st, 2025
Assist students who are struggling with course content and proactively support them as needed
Serve as a positive adult role model for members in the program through appropriate dress, speech, attitude, and courtesy
Evaluate program daily and suggest improvements, needs, hazards and recurring trends to Program Lead for further evaluation
Demonstrate reliability and punctuality by arriving on-time for all scheduled activities
Ensure student attendance is monitored during programming
Submit final grades in a timely manner in accordance with Tufts University deadlines
Other duties as needed
We are seeking an engaging instructor who uses an interdisciplinary approach to teaching through case-studies and hands-on class activities. The successful candidate must be able to teach a capstone project, where students collect, analyze and communicate with data.
Required:
Advanced degree relevant to Environmental Studies.
Must be able to instruct students of varying skill and experience levels in multiple programs based on interest and ability
Must demonstrate responsibility, a desire to help others, discretion, and flexibility
Ability to work with students of diverse ethnic backgrounds, academic profiles, and skill levels
Strong interpersonal, communication, organizational, and customer service skills
Adept critical thinking, process development, and operationalization. Strong attention to detail
Excellent project management skills, prioritization abilities and navigation of tight deadlines
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
Passion for learning and education
Familiarity with ArcGIS StoryMaps is a plus
