Position Summary :
The Head of Special Collections and University Archivist leads Ramsey Library's Special Collections and University Archives unit, including the management of its rich and robust digital collections. This position will be responsible for collection development and acquisitions. Duties include processing of archival records, personal papers and manuscripts, photographs, rare books, and related collections, including the oversight of archival arrangement, description, preservation, and conservation activities. This position will lead efforts to ensure that these materials are easy to discover and use by users on and off campus, and effectively preserved for the present and future. The Head of Special Collections and University Archivist will also be responsible for increasing awareness of how special collections and related services can better support current and future students, and will develop the program in response to user interest and needs.
Minimum Education/Experience/Skill :
Master's degree from an ALA-accredited Library and Information Science program. May also consider a master's degree in archives administration from an accredited school.
Preferred Education/Experience/Skill :
In addition to a Master's degree from an ALA-accredited Library and Information Science program or equivalent the ideal candidate will have 1-3 years of successful experience in Special Collections or archives or an MLS with formal archival training or certification.
Experience in college or university archives is preferred.
Supervisory experience with a diverse staff including support staff, student employees and/or volunteers is desired.
Previous experience with the following would be a plus: experience working with digitized archival collections and in digitizing collections; experience in library instruction, preferably in support of undergraduate research; experience with digital collections management software.
A commitment to public service and a strong commitment to high quality customer service to students, faculty, staff and patrons is highly desired.
