Job Purposes::
Wright State University Libraries seeks a full-time Digital Initiatives and Metadata Librarian. This position is responsible for metadata creation and associated authority and quality control and other duties associated with enhancing the discovery, access, and delivery of content through our institutional repository, CORE Scholar. This work supports research, innovation, scholarship, and creative activities of the students, faculty, and staff of Wright State University.
Required Qualifications::
Master's degree in Library or Information Science (from an ALA accredited program) or Master's degree in history (archival concentration preferred); two years of library experience (can include student or graduate student employment, internships, or practicums) writing metadata and working with institutional repositories and/or digital libraries; knowledge of metadata standards, such as Dublin Core; effective interpersonal and written communication skills; working knowledge of licensing, author self-archiving/publishers' policies; knowledge of current trends and issues in scholarly publishing; ability to manage time and set priorities
Preferred Qualifications::
Experience writing metadata; working knowledge of bepress' Digital Commons; familiarity with OAI-PMH protocol for metadata harvesting; demonstrated experience with authority data (e.g., LC authorities, Getty vocabularies, ORCID, etc.); demonstrated skills with scripting languages and/or tools for data manipulation; experience creating, capturing, and processing images/textual materials; experience working with archival materials
Essential Functions and percent of time::
40% Support research, innovation, scholarship, and creative activities of faculty, students, and staff
- Consult with and advise individual faculty members, academic departments, subject librarians, and Special Collections and Archives to determine the needs of digital projects
- Create and routinely update faculty/staff scholarship pages (SelectedWorks)
- Systematically monitor the scholarly output of faculty, students, and staff at WSU and review for potential inclusion in institutional repository
Working Conditions::
Normal business hours with occasional night and weekend hours as needed.
