Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for University Communication, the Director of Communication for Content Strategy is responsible for creating, editing and publishing marketing and communication copy that supports the University's strategic plan, with a primary emphasis on communication that supports enrollment goals. The Director contributes well-written content for a wide range of digital and traditional marketing and communication projects, including enrollment marketing materials, news releases, blog posts, social media content, email campaigns, an alumni magazine and the University's website. This supervisory position primarily supports the areas of Enrollment Marketing, Enrollment Management, Financial Aid and Student Affairs The Director also serves as Managing Editor of Bellarmine Magazine and is a member of the Enrollment Marketing and Crisis Communication teams.
Essential Duties
Creates effective and results-oriented marketing and communication content that demonstrates a high level of professional skill in the craft of copywriting;
Is the primary writer and storyteller for Enrollment Marketing, producing an agreed-upon number of pieces of content each month to support enrollment goals while collaborating on the development of Enrollment Marketing collateral;
Provides timely and accurate editing and fact-checking support for copy written by others;
Adjusts the tone and style of their copy to ensure it is appropriate for various audiences;
Ensures web content is written to support Search Engine Optimization and other Key Performance Indicators;
Supervises and provides direction to personnel who lead photography, videography, social media and graphic design, ensuring that the well-planned content they produce is deployed for maximum reach;
Demonstrates in-depth knowledge about the areas the position supports, in order to produce work that meets their needs;
Develops content that aligns with the University's diversity, equity and inclusion goals, in collaboration with the Diversity and Access Committee;
Collaborates on the development and maintenance of a University style manual;
Participates in the development and maintenance of an editorial calendar;
Initiates projects and develops schedules that allow adequate time to conceptualize, write, edit and seek approval of strategic written communication and marketing solutions;
Serves as Managing Editor of Bellarmine Magazine, supporting the work of the Executive Editor by writing and editing content as needed;
Writes news releases and is available to serve as a University spokesperson when needed;
Provides support managing news media visits to campus when needed;
Serves as a member of the University's Crisis Communication Team;
Makes updates to the University's website using content management software as needed;
Interacts effectively with all levels of management and staff across the institution;
Pursues professional development opportunities to continually expand the capacity of this position;
Stays current with communication and marketing trends through continuous market research;
Manages freelance writers and student workers as needed;
Serves on University committees as appropriate.
Job Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in English, journalism, marketing, communication or a related field;
Five or more years of professional writing experience;
Exceptional listening, verbal and written communication skills interpersonal skills;
Experience organizing, prioritizing and scheduling work assignments;
Enjoy demonstrating initiative and creativity, excel at originating ideas, anticipate and implement next steps, generate improvement opportunities and translate new ideas into workable solutions;
Strong attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple projects and consistently meet tight deadlines through creative problem solving.
