The American Alliance of Museums seeks a Human Resources Manager to: administer AAM’s human resources functions including benefits administration, payroll, recruitment, provide guidance to supervisors and employees on HR policies and best practices, and align HR programs to foster an inclusive, equitable and productive work culture. AAM currently operates under a hybrid work schedule that includes remote work and in-person work at our Arlington, VA office approximately 1-2 days per week or more as needs dictate. About the position: Serving as an HR generalist, the HR Manager ensures compliance with all federal/state regulations, reviews and makes recommendations to leadership to improve employment policies, procedures, and practices, and maintains the employee handbook. The position centralizes the recruitment process for the organization, working directly with hiring managers to identify appropriate recruitment sources, reviewing resumes and advising hiring managers. The position also coordinates AAM benefits administration programs ensuring that AAM maintains robust and competitive insurance, disability and leave programs. The HR Manager also processes the semi-monthly payroll using a streamlined and automated cloud-based payroll platform.
Reporting to the Senior Director of Finance and Administration, the position plays an important role in aligning AAM’s organizational commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility to the day-to-day working culture of AAM’s unique and energetic team. As an important resource and partner to AAM’s Leadership and Inclusion teams, the HR Manager provides directs support towards AAM’s culture and diversity initiatives.

Skills and qualifications: At least three years of progressive human resources experience working for a professional or nonprofit association; experience with and broad knowledge of employment law, compensation, organizational development and employee relations; excellent communication skills; highly organized yet flexible to accommodate changing needs; strong project management skills; excellent interpersonal and coaching skills. Strong computer skills including MS Office Suite, internet research and experience with payroll software. Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field required. Professional human resources certification preferred.
