The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), the national nonprofit association established in 1863 that represents more than 100,000 veterinarians working in private and corporate practice, government, industry, academia, and uniformed services, is seeking a Business Intelligence Analyst/Report Developer to join our Digital Services and Solutions team, located at our Headquarters office in Schaumburg, Illinois – a northwest suburb of Chicago. The AVMA’s mission is to lead the profession by advocating for its members and advancing the science and practice of veterinary medicine to improve animal and human health.
Reporting to the Senior Data Engineer, this newly created position will be responsible for the business intelligence life cycle of creating new and enhancing existing dashboards, reports, and data visualizations utilizing Power BI. The role will help drive reporting strategy and insights to support business decisions and objectives by using data to tell a story to forecast and guide business activity across different areas of the AVMA. The ideal candidate will have the curiosity and skills to investigate and examine the data from multiple angles and identify trends while partnering with colleagues to match data from multiple resources to make recommendations to be shared with technical and non-technical audiences.

To be successful in this role, you must be passionate about AVMA’s mission. Additional qualifications include:
BS/BA in computer science, engineering, data science or related technical field. Additional education (Master’s degree) can substitute for the desired years of experience.
3+ years’ experience in developing efficient, user-friendly and insightful visual reports, dashboards and KPI scorecards using Microsoft Power BI
Experience building BI solutions within an Azure ecosystem (Azure SQL Databases, Azure Data Factory, Databricks, and Azure Data Lake).
Experience working with stakeholders to identify goals, objectives and elicit requirements for their reporting needs.
Proficient programming skills (SQL/T-SQL, Python) and strong understanding of database management and architecture.
Familiarity with dimensional data warehouse architecture, data integrations, and data optimization techniques.
Experience developing in, publishing, and administering the Power BI environment including integration/embedding into 3rd party applications (website, data portal)
Strong business acumen with the ability to find insights in data
Extreme eye for detail with good organization and time management skills
Experience working with imperfect data sets that, at times, will require improvements to process and prepare for analysis.
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with individuals at all levels.
Experience utilizing DAX and Power Query to perform manipulate and transform data to satisfy requirements
Experience with tools/languages to analyze data and identify trends and meaningful insights
Experience writing complex, efficient SQL to cleanse and prepare data for consumption by Power BI
