POSITION SUMMARY
The Director of Institutional Research is responsible for the collection, analysis, interpretation, and dissemination of data necessary to inform institutional decision-making, policy and planning. The Director leads the College's efforts to enable the availability of data and deepen the institution's analytical capabilities, treating data as a College asset that is collected accurately, analyzed rigorously, used appropriately, and shared openly. The Director serves as both a partner and resource, engaging and collaborating with all offices and individuals across the College.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Job duties specific to this position:
Establish, administer and coordinate the College’s institutional research activities including the collection, analysis, interpretation and reporting of information that best characterizes or describes the College to internal and external audiences. Support the College’s strategic planning process with institutional data to track progress towards strategic goals. Seek and validate data, including outside benchmarks and comparative data, to support or refute institutional decision-making and processes.
Develop and implement creative new ways to support and advance the mission and functions of the Institutional Research Office, to keep up with technological advances and to stay relevant to the College’s business needs and practices.
Support and expand campus capacity to access and use data. Support a College-wide culture of inquiry. Leverage new and existing technologies to provide easy and informative access. Advocate for further development of data and reporting systems and structures. Collaborate with others to help incorporate data and analytics in the design and implementation of a range of planning, business and operational solutions.
Ensure compliance with federal and state guidelines, and other external agency requirements (e.g. IPEDS, Common Data Set). Coordinate with other institutional offices on the reporting of data for the purposes of marketing, strategic planning and regulatory compliance.
Support the coordination and implementation of activities related to academic accreditation and assessment. Serve as a representative on, or technical support to, accreditation and assessment councils as requested by the Provost.
Manage the operation of the Institutional Research Office, its day-to-day activities, priorities and budgets.
Manage the scope of institutional research work. Develop and implement a structure for prioritization, completion and delivery of new and recurring surveys, projects and ad hoc requests.
Ensure the integrity of all methodologies and documentation used by the Institutional Research Office as relating to data, reporting and analysis. Supervise all office activities to ensure that information and reporting is repetitious, reliable and unbiased.
Establish standards and processes for documentation, communication, presentation and quality review of deliverables.
Provide leadership, supervision and development of direct reports in performing their duties. Support and encourage individual development and growth to ensure that the IR team continues to meet the needs to its clients.
Provide support to the Provost and Associate Provosts for special projects and initiatives.

QUALIFICATIONS
Master's Degree in an analytical discipline such as the social sciences, education research, public policy, or related field is required.
5+ years of experience in higher education or similar institutional setting.
A strong understanding of research methodology in behavioral sciences or education measurement. In-depth knowledge of research methods in the social sciences and familiarity with intermediate to advanced multivariate statistical analysis techniques.
Demonstrated ability collect/extract, clean, analyze, and summarize data, including competency with analytical software such as SAS and SPSS, and data visualization software, such as Tableau. Experience with education ERPs such as Datatel/Collegue and Workday preferred.
Experience creating and clearly summarizing information for decision makers and other end users.
Understanding and applied knowledge of digital transformation processes related to business process and cultural/organizational change.
Demonstrated ability to work with less technically-savvy users to develop the scope of reporting, data requirements, and appropriate tools for extraction and reporting.
Strong management, interpersonal skills, including active listening, flexibility, and empathy to accurately obtain information from and provide information to client offices and senior leadership.
SQL programming ability and/or other software used to manipulate, summarize, and produce reports from multiple, large, complex data sets.
Demonstrated leadership in institutional research and analytics.
Demonstrated scholarship and fluency in transforming data to knowledge, insights, and direction for action.
Exceptional skills in written and verbal communication, collaboration, and team management.
High level of interest and knowledge related to critical issues in higher education and student success.
Ability to manage multiple projects and strict deadlines while maintaining a high degree of accuracy.
Sensitive to confidential matters and able to exercise a high level of discretion and judgement.
