The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. Position Summary
Reporting to the editor-in-chief of Logic(s) at Columbia University, the Managing Editor assumes a pivotal role in the magazine's operations. Responsible for strategizing and executing operational plans, the Managing Editor oversees all aspects of editorial production, from inception to publication. Working closely with the editor-in-chief and publisher, they develop operational procedures for content creation, establish editorial processes to engage stakeholders and support staff, and implement staffing strategies to ensure timely magazine publishing and distribution, maintaining complete editorial independence from its finders, including INCITE.
Logic(s) publishes biannual print and digital magazines in various mediums and creative styles, including reported articles, features, graphic stories, poetry, speculative and science fiction, and visual essays. The mission of Logic(s) is to draw in voices and perspectives that remain outside, underexplored, and essential to thinking critically about technology from below, housed within Columbia University???s INCITE institute. To create knowledge for public action, all expertise and experience must be elevated. As such, INCITE supports and assembles researchers, students, artists, activists, and others from outside the academy to learn from and inspire one another through intellectual and creative encounters.
This is a one-year, grant-funded position contingent on continuous funding.
Responsibilities
Develop and implement an editorial process to effectively communicate with and support stakeholders and staff throughout the editorial cycle.
Manage the editorial calendar to ensure efficient planning and scheduling of content.
Enhance day-to-day magazine operations to streamline the production process.
Develop operational procedures for content creation from conceptualization to publication.
Administer and track the review process for article and story submissions. Manage the investigation and resolution of ethical issues involving authors and editors.
Address and resolve complaints or issues related to content promptly and effectively.
Oversee day-to-day communications, strategy, operations, and budgeting.
Evaluate and implement staffing solutions to ensure timely magazine publishing and distribution. Supervise interns, freelancers, associate editors, assistant editors, or other staff members.
Monitor peer review trends and implement best practices in review processes and policies.
Serve as the liaison between accepted manuscripts and the production team to meet deadlines.
Stay abreast of industry trends to maintain the publication's relevance and competitiveness.
Support content editing and development based on background and interests.
Assist in the development of processes and systems to implement ancillary programming.
Fulfill other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor???s degree and a minimum of two years relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in editorial production of digital or printed publications. Bachelor???s in journalism or a related field.

Strong editing and proofreading abilities, with a thorough understanding of grammar, punctuation, and style guidelines.
Proficient in content management systems and other relevant software.

Knowledge of SEO best practices and the ability to optimize content for search engines.
Familiarity with social media platforms and their role in content distribution.
