Position Summary
The Director of Events reports to the Senior Director, Special Events for Schools, and Programs. The role of the Director of Events is to plan and implement key events designed to cultivate, maintain, and strengthen alumni, parent, and friend ties to the University. Oversee and manage all aspects of staffing, event planning and logistics, budgets, and contracts.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Manages University Advancement special events for one of the Danforth Schools or Programs, including high level events for the chancellor, dean, and other university leaders. Oversees, manages, and provides assistance as needed for additional special events in University Advancement for assigned schools and programs including but not limited to: Professorship installations, Donor stewardship dinners, award ceremonies, and other events involving the schools and programs. Works with philanthropy and development teams to facilitate engagement, cultivation and stewardship through program events.
Manages event planning related activities including but not limited to contract negotiations, reserving event space, creating invitations, overseeing data for invitation lists, coordinating and supervising mail house projects, creating timelines, establishing logistical plans, securing speakers, creating seating plans, overseeing the process of drafting briefing materials for university leaders, and assisting with talking points.
Oversees the ongoing management of one team member, including day-to-day management of timesheets, performance reviews, and regular check-ins.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications
Three years of experience in development/advancement preferably in higher education.
Prior experience in event planning and management.
Prior experience in budgeting and forecasting.
Knowledge of and proficiency with computer software (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, FileMaker Pro) and standard office equipment.
Experience with email building software and/or graphic design.
Demonstrated strength in organizational and project management skills.
Familiarity with and appreciation for the mission of Advancement Programs and the activities of the department.
Desire to play a meaningful role in the universityâ™s community and to share in the communityâ™s commitment to education and research.
Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
Ability to work successfully with administration, faculty, alumni, parents, and volunteers as appropriate.
Ability to listen carefully, learn quickly, and work effectively in a complex organization.
Exceptional interpersonal skills: demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships.Â
Able to prioritize and multi-task effectively.
Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues across development offices, as well as independently.Â

Bachelorâ™s degree
Five years of related experience.

Salary Range
$75,200.00 - $128,800.00 / AnnuallyThe salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
