POSITION SUMMARY:
The Scientific Project Manager will be a member of the Sarafan ChEM-H operations team, and will be responsible for managing ongoing and special projects that support research programs and scientific communications within Sarafan ChEM-H. They will bring specialized technical knowledge in biomedical, chemistry, or engineering research and will be a critical member of the team responsible for developing, planning, and executing institute-sponsored research programs and for sustaining, measuring the impact of, and communicating the value of the research across the institute.
The Scientific Project Manager will leverage their technical knowledge and work collaboratively with institute staff and faculty on a variety of projects, including designing and executing an institutional impact report to evaluate the impact of its scientific programs and of the institute broadly; conceptualizing, writing, and editing scientific communications for a variety of audiences, including scientists and non-scientists; and planning and executing institute-sponsored seed grant programs. They will develop and maintain an understanding of the institute's ongoing scientific projects and of relevant outcomes. They will be curious to learn about emerging areas of science, think creatively about ways to support and communicate the value of cross-disciplinary research, and be comfortable using both analytics and qualitative examples to explain concepts in a structured and persuasive way.
CORE DUTIES:
Develop and manage research programs by conducting research activities, including outreach to varied stakeholders within the program, assigning resources and making program improvement recommendations that impact policies and programs.
Identify, recommend and implement opportunities for new research.
Source, collect and analyze data, create reports, review and explain trends; formulate and evaluate alternative solutions and/or recommendations to achieve the goals of the program or function.
Write and/or edit complex content for proposals, research grants, peer-reviewed publications, and other program activities.
Contribute to and inform on strategic program/entity planning and related funding and financial sustainability.
May advise students and/or coach/mentor clients.
Develop or contribute to outreach strategy related to program communications, development, partnerships, and fundraising/funding.
Coach and mentor program staff.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree and three years of relevant experience or combination of education, training, and relevant experience. Advanced degree may be required for some programs. For jobs with financial responsibilities, experience managing a budget and developing financial plans.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to develop program partnerships and funding sources.
Excellent oral, written, and analytical skills, exhibiting fluency in area of specialization.
Comfort in a collaborative work environment.
Strong decision-making skills and ability to create structured plans with limited information.
Ability to oversee and direct staff.
Basic knowledge of managing budgets and developing financial plans.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Highly preferred: advanced degree in biomedical sciences, chemistry, chemical biology, molecular science, biology, engineering, or a related field.
Experience in science communications, social media strategy, and/or graphic design
Experience in community building, especially scientific communities.
Occasionally use a telephone, writing by hand, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 40 pounds.
Rarely sort/file paperwork or parts, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh >40 pounds.
Ability to use voice to present information/communicate with others.
On-campus mobility.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
May work extended hours, evenings or weekends.
May travel locally.
Occasional overnight travel.

For Hybrid positions:
The expected pay range for this position is $95,000 to $129,000 per annum.
