The Academy's Learning Experience Design (LXD) Team provides learning experiences and graphic design support to all Academy programs, including the design and development of eLearning courses, marketing and communication materials, custom animations and videos, and innovative digital products that inspire others and help transform hearts, minds, and practice.
Responsibilities PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
Under the general supervision of the Learning Experience Design Supervisor, the LX Designer is responsible for the design and development of engaging, interactive, and accessible eLearning courses from inception to completion, in conjunction with Academy program curriculum developers, internal and external subject matter experts (SMEs), and LXD Team members. This position can be fully remote, working primarily from a home office with travel to Academy offices as needed. SPECIFIC DUTIES
This is a 40 hour a week full time position working M-F from 8:00 to 4:30 p.m. and is based on contract funding subject to annual renewal. The position is subject to intermittent overnight travel and work shifts outside of normal business hours including weekends and evening.
Note: Some duties may include working with and/or exposure to sensitive/traumatic topics or material dealing with child abuse, elder abuse, and/or issues and scenarios related to mental health, substance use, or racism. DESIGNS & DEVELOPS ELEARNING MODULES USING POWERPOINT, STORYLINE & RISE (70%)
Design engaging, interactive, and accessible content, assessments, and practice activities for eLearning courses which effectively communicate the content developed by SMEs and curriculum developers to the intended audiences.
Evaluate and adapt behaviorally specific learning objectives for eLearning modules.
Collaborate with SMEs and curriculum developers to design skill/knowledge-based exercises and case scenarios which encourage effective transfer of learning.
Develop storyboards, write and produce narration, and program eLearning modules.
Collaborate with User Experience (UX) designers to conceptualize graphics, interactions, and animations.
Perform quality assurance on eLearning deliverables at all stages of the development process.
Upload/test eLearning courses to Academy learning management system (LMS).
MANAGES LEARNING EXPERIENCE DESIGN PROJECTS (15%)
Oversee all aspects of eLearning project deliverables.
Collaborate with program managers and curriculum developers on establishing project timelines and workflow.
MANAGES PROJECT AND STAKEHOLDER RELATIONSHIPS (10%)
Communicate regularly with project stakeholders on project management timelines, status, and reviews.
Coordinate virtually or attend meetings with project stakeholders to facilitate reviews for draft curriculum, storyboards, and alpha and beta versions of programmed eLearning modules.
Attend Academy program operational meetings and relevant committee meetings.
OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED (5%)
Perform other duties as assigned which are in the best interests of the Academy for Professional Excellence.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs)
Knowledge of eLearning development processes
Knowledge of adult learning theory and instructional design principles
Excellent written and oral communication skills, including English grammar, spelling, and punctuation
Ability to tailor communication to the needs of the intended audience
Expert level skill using the Articulate 360 suite (or other eLearning rapid development tools) and Microsoft PowerPoint
Working knowledge of Learning Management Systems
Knowledge of WCAG 2.0 and 508 accessibility standards and understanding of how they apply to eLearning
Basic understanding of quality assurance and usability testing
Ability to manage a variety of complex, concurrent LXD projects
Ability to initiate, manage tasks, and meet deadlines with minimal supervision
Ability to apply independent judgment, discretion, and initiative to address problems and develop solutions
Ability to display organization and detail orientation and meet deadlines
Ability to work in a team setting & relate well to others within the Academy for Professional Excellence environment

Qualifications REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, educational technology, communications, or related field or similar certified coursework in applicable field of study.
Two-years of progressively responsible work experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Masters degree in instructional design or at least two (2) years instructional design experience
At least two (2) years experience designing and developing self-study eLearning courses
Experience designing for accessibility and developing WCAG 2.0 compliant eLearning courses
