Reporting to the Assistant Vice President of Financial Aid (AVPFA), the primary objective of the Director of Financial Aid Compliance and Training is to oversee and assure compliance with regulations and statutes pertaining to the administration of both federal and state financial aid, while providing support to FAO staff and university colleagues. This position provides guidance and direction in many key areas that affect systems, operations, processes and regulations with regard to Financial Aid, Student Accounts, Registrar, Admissions and Student Success offices as well as other critical stakeholders at the university (i.e., Finance & Budget and Institutional Research). The Director acts as the primary conduit for all compliance and regulatory activities concerning financial aid.Â
This position requires excellent organizational, planning and project management skills, as well as versatility, flexibility, and problem-solving ability. It requires a combination of regulatory knowledge, understanding of business needs and the underlying systems that support them, preferably in a higher education environment. The ideal candidate will have experience working in a fast-paced, data-driven and creative environment. The Director will possess the interpersonal skills necessary to successfully liaise, negotiate, and collaborate with colleagues across all levels of the university and external partners while maintaining composure, discretion, and a student-centered focus.
The Director will use a variety of tools to monitor institutional compliance and prepare reports for the AVP,FA, Vice Provost of Enrolment Management & Strategic Partnerships, and others. These tools include Tableau and Excel. A deep understanding of The New Schoolâ™s student (Banner) and finance (Workday) systems will be necessary.Â

COMPLIANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead compliance efforts associated with federal, state, institutional and accredited agencies and functions.
Serve as the primary contact for federal, state and internal auditors;Â collect and prepare data for auditing testing.
Aggressively monitor DOE, NASFAA, NYSFAA, NYS HE for changes and proposed changes to rules and laws.
Collaborate with FInancial Aidâ™s IT staff to develop and refine programs to monitor compliance in all areas. Oversee the submission of compliance reporting to the National Student Loan Data System and National Student Clearinghouse.
Manage all consumer information for proper compliance with federal and state laws.
Identify potential areas of compliance vulnerability and risks; develop corrective action plans.Â
Collaborate with the AVP, FA to implement policy and procedural changes resulting from audit and program review findings.
Advise the AVP, FA of regulatory and statutory changes
TRAINING RESPONSIBILITIES
Direct internal training on federal and state financial aid regulations and statutes. Â
Manage staff members to ensure their awareness of and participation in professional development programs.Collaborate with TNS leaders in other departments to develop and implement formal training programs for their staff.. (Student Accounts, Registrar, Fiance)
Conduct regular evaluation and assessment of training programs to ensure TNS is in compliance with State & Federal Laws
Document training procedures to include in department manual and update as applicable
Provide on-going training with staff as needed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
5-7 years of full-time experience in an Office of Financial Aid with demonstrable experience with compliance and audits.Â
Bachelorâ™s degree required
Demonstrated knowledge of Title IV regulations, federal student aid, and NYS programs.
Experience with Banner, Workday, ETL Tools (Hyperion/Tableau), and CRM systems
Demonstrated knowledge of all areas of financial aid, including applications, awarding and aid packaging, entrance counseling, and federal verification, master promissory notes, exit counseling, and repayment.
Experience managing full-time staff.
Ability to prioritize, handle multiple deadlines and projects.

WORK MODE
Hybrid/Remote - Employees hired for this position primarily work remotely with the occasional on-campus presence required with advanced notice. Employees in this role will also be expected to be on campus when necessary in order to best fulfill the responsibilities of their job descriptions.Â
