Job Description: What We Are Looking For
The Travel Manager is responsible for the planning and implementation of all university travel initiatives. This includes coordinating travel providers, managing costs, and ensuring compliance with university policies and regulations. The Travel Manager also serves as a central point of contact for faculty and staff looking to book travel, providing guidance and support throughout the planning and execution of their travel programs. In addition to these responsibilities, the Travel Manager is also responsible for overseeing all travel procurement and travel contracting activities for the university.
A Bachelor's degree, five years of relevant experience, and an active Christian faith are required. A degree in Business or an appropriate discipline and seven years of relevant experience are preferred. Experience will not be accepted in lieu of the educational requirement. Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
What You Will Do
Oversee all travel procurement and contracting activities for the university, including negotiating contracts with vendors and partners
Develop and implement comprehensive travel initiatives, including managing supplier relationships and setting program objectives
Develop and drive supplier management and associated metrics
Serve as a central point of contact for faculty and staff looking to book travel, providing guidance and support throughout the planning and execution of their travel programs
Ensure compliance with university policies and regulations, as well as all applicable federal and state laws
Develop and maintain relationships with external vendors and partners, including travel agencies, hotels, and transportation providers
Collaborate with other departments and organizations to support and promote university travel programs
Serve as a primary point of contact for faculty, staff, other stakeholders with questions or concerns related to university travel programs
Serve as travel training coordinator and facilitator for campus
Perform other duties as assigned.
Experience:
3-5 years travel management experience
Experience working in higher education preferred
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Required - Knowledge of travel management and expense systems (e.g., Oracle/Concur)
Good understanding of challenges associated with travel from the traveler's point of view
Demonstrated critical thinking skills
General working knowledge of accepted procurement best practices
Excellent organizational and project management skills
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Knowledge of policies and regulations related to business travel (faculty and staff preferred)
Experience managing budgets and expenses and overseeing procurement and contracting activities
Strong analytical skills
Demonstrated consultative/collaborative skills
Ability to perform in highly matrixed environments with multiple stakeholders
Demonstrated ability to influence without authority, motivating and managing cross-functional teams
Acts with service mindset; establishing and maintaining trust and respect
