The Research Analyst is a seasoned professional who will support multiple studies including National Institutes of Health (NIH) and foundation-funded research. They will be responsible for carrying out data collection including but not limited to surveys and questionnaire, interviews, focus groups, and administrative data collection via data sharing with Amend's prison partners. Data collection may take place either in person or remotely.

They will also be responsible for quantitative and qualitative data analysis. The successful candidate will be able to work with moderate independence with routine support from more senior research directors. Travel, including for data collection inside state prisons, will be required (depending on public health guidance).

This Research Analyst will support multiple studies involving research into health-focused criminal justice reform. Strong organizational skills, flexibility and adaptability to move between projects, and a willingness to complete tasks regardless of responsibility is essential.

This position may work on multiple studies, both NIH and foundation-funded, working with people at-risk for incarceration, experiencing incarceration, and recently incarcerated.

The Research Analyst will, under the direction of a Project Director, engage in activities including:

• Obtain informed consent, administer drop and/or digital surveys, conduct structured interviews and focus groups (remotely and in person), and collect data from partnering prison systems via administrative data transfer
• Manage data through REDCAP and similar data management instruments
• Abstract data
• Suggest appropriate research methodologies and quantitative and qualitative analyses to run given research hypotheses
• Conduct basic statistical analyses using STATA or equivalent statistical programming software
• Contribute to data interpretation
• Distill complex data into narrative and graphic summaries
• Work with project team to support ongoing grant progress reports to foundation and federal funders, new grant applications, and Institutional Review Board (IRB) applications
• Keep study databases updated and in compliance with all data security requirements of UCSF IRB and/or external partners (via contracted data sharing terms and conditions)
• Contact participants and send reminder letters to enhance enrollment when needed
• Manage study petty cash for participant payments when needed
• Maintain files for ongoing projects of the investigator
• Manage research meetings, including scheduling, taking notes, distributing minutes, following up on deliverables, etc.
