The Office of Marketing & Communications (MAC) at the University of Michigan-Flint is primarily focused on digital marketing initiatives that support the enrollment goals of the university. Responsibilities of the department include campus communications, media relations, and upholding the brand guidelines set forth by the University of Michigan for all three campuses. MAC is searching for a Social Media Marketing and Communications Specialist to join the team.
Reporting to the director of MAC, you will be a key member of the marketing and communication team.
You will help manage UM-Flint's presence on social media; support the digital storytelling/content creation and management and UM-Flint's digital/social strategy.
Social Media and Community Management
Post/curate UM-Flint's presence and work with campus partners on social platforms to support marketing and customer service priorities.
Extend marketing strategy into digital and social touch points.
Participate in conversations with campus partners to increase brand affinity, engagement and likelihood of involvement in UM-Flint activities.
Digital Storytelling/Content Creation and Management
Manage editorial calendar for digital content on UM-Flint social media accounts including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Instagram, using the unique aspects of each outlet.
Ensure digital content schedules align with email and other scheduled marketing efforts.
Strategize, develop and execute concepts and plans for digital content
Create meaningful storytelling and curate digital content including writing, digital photography, and video.
Collaborate with editorial leads to identify and produce stories for digital channels
Collaborate with colleagues to develop content based on marketing goals and strategic communications priorities
Digital/Social Strategy and New Ideas
Measure and distribute engagement metrics for priority campaigns on digital platforms
Maintain high awareness of trends and best practices in digital marketing, communications, and social media
Report on engagement metrics for each social platform
Examine social media analytics and make recommendations based on that analysis.
Bachelor's degree in communications, media studies or relevant degree
Two or more years of relevant professional experience
Experience using Facebook, Instagram and Twitter to promote a business, nonprofit or educational institution with a history of increasing engagement.
Experience write/create engaging and interesting stories for social media platforms.
Experience designing infographics and/or editing videos for social media.
A consistent hybrid work schedule (some days on campus and some days working remotely) is available for this position at this time. However, this is subject to change based upon the duties of the position and the needs of the department.
