Job Description Summary
Michigan Technological University (Michigan Tech) has two positions available to conduct research on a wide range of topics related to computational biomedical engineering. The appointment is for 12 months, with an option for renewal upon satisfactory performance and funding availability.

Successful applicants would join a team of postdoctoral staff and undergraduate and graduate students and closely collaborate with the Betz Congenital Heart Center at the Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital. The selected post-doc(s) will be supervised by Dr. Jingfeng Jiang and Dr. Joseph Vettukattil. Dr. Jiang is a Professor of Biomedical Engineering and Director of Biocomputing and Digital Health (a joint center affiliated with the Health Research Institute and Institute of Computing and Cybernetics. Dr. Vettukattil is a world-renowned interventional cardiologist and an Adjunct Professor of Biomedical Engineering.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)
•Review and synthesis relevant literature. •Conduct image analysis, numerical modeling and/or data analysis. •Prepare manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals. •Prepare grant proposals to support research efforts. •Disseminate research at national and international conferences. •Work with other members of the research team, including undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and research collaborators (inside and outside Michigan Tech). •The applicant would select research topic(s), working with the supervisors on the following area: • Biomedical Imaging Analysis and Data Analytics, Including Machine Learning • Multiple Image Modality Integration and Visualization • Software Development and Integration to Support Clinical Applications in Cardiovascular Disease •Integrate safety practices into daily activities and commit to learning about continuous improvement strategies and applying them to everyday work.
Ph.D. in engineering, Applied Math, Physics, Computer/Data/Computational Sciences, or a closely-related field.
Required Experience (minimum requirements)
Experience in processing medical imaging data. Experience with computerized data analytics.
Desirable Education and/or Experience
Experience in one of the mainstream software packages in machine learning (e.g., Tensorflow, Torch, etc.). Experience in Computer Vision applications and related software (e.g., OpenCV). Experience in Virtual Reality (VR) and/or Augmented Reality (AR). Extensive experience and skills in the programming of at least one of the following three areas: machine learning, Computer Vision, or VR/AR. Extensive Experience and Knowledge in optimization and numerical analysis of partial differential equations.
Knowledge and computer coding skills (e.g., Matlab, Python, C++, etc.). A record of publication(s) in mainstream peer-reviewed journals.
Desirable Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities
Medical Image Analysis. Computer vision with applications in Medicine. Machine learning with applications in medical imaging. Computer visualization, including VR/AR applications in conjunction with medical imaging and surgical planning.
Language, Mathematics and/or Reasoning Skills
Work Environment and/or Physical Demands
The work environment is that of a typical office and/or classroom setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.
