The Department of Radiology in the School of Medicine at the University of Washington (UW) in Seattle is recruiting for one full-time (100% FTE) faculty position at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor without tenure (WOT) by reason of funding, commensurate with experience, to join the Diagnostic Physics Section at the University of Washington, Seattle, WA with an anticipated start date of September 1, 2022. Assistant Professors WOT are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Associate Professors WOT and full Professors WOT hold indefinite appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.
This position will demonstrate a commitment to excellence in clinical service, scholarship, and education with our interdisciplinary faculty in this top-ranked Department of Radiology. All UW faculty engage in teaching, research, and service. This is a mid-career faculty position with clinical as well as research and teaching responsibilities. The duties of this position are expected to include routine clinical diagnostic physics experience, along with expertise in data analytics with a focus on artificial intelligence applications to improve efficiency and accuracy in radiology and medical physics-oriented workflows.
This position in the Diagnostic Physics Section (DPS) includes clinical testing responsibilities at UW Medicine sites of practice, including the UW Medical Center (UWMC)-Montlake, UWMC-Northwest, Harborview Medical Center, Seattle Children's Hospital and Seattle Cancer Care Alliance. State-of-the-art digital imaging modalities, including radiography, fluoroscopy, mammography, multi-detector CT, MR, US and PACS are in place throughout the enterprise. The mission of the DPS is to ensure that patient images are of optimal diagnostic quality at appropriate radiation dose, maintain compliance with all regulating and certifying agency requirements, to assist physicians in making informed clinical decisions, and to provide education on physics principles that drive image quality and safety. The DPS consists of 5 physicists (2 faculty, 3 staff) and 1 medical physics assistant.
Responsibilities will include involvement in the quality assurance (QA) and quality control (QC) programs for radiological imaging modalities utilizing ionizing radiation and the support of American College of Radiology (ACR) modality accreditation efforts. Duties will also include working with radiologists/physicians and technologists in the development of new imaging procedures and optimizing imaging techniques. This individual will also be involved in teaching radiology residents and other UW students and staff/faculty. Collaborative engagement with stakeholders and vendors is part of this position. We are currently in the process of establishing an imaging physics residency, so extensive involvement with the residency will be required. Positive factors for consideration include, but are not limited to, experience in all imaging modalities and proficiency with PC personal productivity tools including emails, word processing, and spreadsheets

Candidates should meet the following requirements:
Ph.D. in medical physics or related sciences, or foreign equivalent
ABR board certification
5 years of post-graduate diagnostic medical physics experience
Proven communication, planning, interpersonal, and analytical skills

SCCA requires all individuals, including University of Washington faculty clinicians, working at an SCCA facility to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
