In partnership with Black Rocket Productions, Eastern Iowa Community College is hiring Lead Instructors to teach youth various types of digital arts programs at EICC campus locations this summer. Topics include Python Programmers, eSports Gamers and Streamers, Cloud Game Creators, Make Your First Video Game, ROBLOX® Coders, and YouTube® FX Shorts. Classes are taught in age groups of 8-10 and 11-14.
Lead Instructors are responsible for the well-being and education of the students. A lead instructor may have either a degree/experience in education or significant experience in one of the content areas being taught. In addition to teaching responsibilities, lead instructors are also responsible for staff supervision, equipment management, enforcement of site policies, and meeting project deadlines.
Required training is provided and begins in late spring. Training requires availability during some evenings and weekends. After completing the Black Rocket training program, instructors must demonstrate competency in the core concepts being taught and the software used.
This position is temporary, part-time for our Continuing Education department, the Camp runs in June and July; workweeks are Monday-Thursday. Hours are typically 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM, and 1:00 PM -4:00 PM, but scheduled based on your preference and availability.
Have a strong understanding of the course concepts being taught as well as any techniques and software involved.
Enthusiasm for the subjects, and desire to help design and teach fun, innovative, multidisciplinary courses.
Excellent communication and presentation skills.
A specialty and passion such as programming and robotics, or experimentation and statistics.
Camp runs in June and July; workweeks are Monday-Thursday.

Preferred Qualifications:
Minimum of a completed bachelor's degree.
Teaching Certification preferred, but not required.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities:
Course Development:
Design and update course materials, lesson plans, handouts, and assessments.
Incorporate a variety of teaching methods and technologies to accommodate different learning styles.
Ensure course content is current, relevant, and aligned with industry standards or learner needs.
Instruction:
Deliver engaging and effective instruction in person or online, as appropriate for the course delivery format.
Vary instructional approaches to appeal to multiple learning styles.
Utilize teaching methods that support adult learning theory, building upon experiential knowledge and understanding and providing contextualized scope.
Facilitate class discussions, activities, and practical exercises to reinforce learning.
Provide clear explanations of complex concepts and skills.
Conduct courses in a manner that helps participants to stay engaged in the learning process and meet course objectives.
Plan for and ensure participants' health and safety during training.
Student Assessment:
Evaluate student performance through assignments, exams, projects, and participation.
Provide timely and constructive feedback to help students improve.
Maintain accurate records of student progress and attendance.
Communication and Support
Respond to student inquiries and provide guidance as needed.
Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment.
Communicate course expectations, objectives, and policies clearly to students.
Administrative Duties:
Complete and submit required documentation, such as attendance records, grades, and course evaluations in a timely manner.
Assist with marketing and promotion of continuing education courses as needed.
Adhere to all institutional policies and procedures.
