The Assistant Director of Health Promotion is responsible for providing direct outreach and prevention services through programming and communications to students in the areas of sexual assault prevention, suicide prevention, alcohol and substance use education, and holistic well-being under the direction of the Director of Health Promotion in order to create an environment that promotes student success, personal development and personal health literacy. The Assistant Director will help identify needs of the Centre campus community on an ongoing basis by reviewing departmental and national data including informal surveys and discussions with members of the Centre faculty, staff, and student body. This role will identify and establish strategic campus and community partnerships designed to cultivate innovative efforts that promote student health, well-being, and ensure student safety.
Plan, implement, and evaluate theory-based and data-informed health promotion strategies, policies, programs, and services.
Develop strategic plans, goals, and measurable objectives for student centered, inclusive and culturally responsive health promotion initiatives in collaboration with key stakeholders across campus;
Utilize technology to track attendance at events and collect data related to student-well-being;
Act as point person and organizer of training requests and campus initiatives that promote student development and well-being;
Deploy effective marketing strategies to raise awareness, services and programs including outreach over social media to students from various backgrounds and abilities;
Coordinate the marketing and promotion of services and programs including but not limited to the development and management of social media platforms and unit websites, and the development of informational materials, both print and digital, in partnership with Centre’s Communications team;
Administer peer education program scheduling and marketing;
Demonstrate an appreciation for and sensitivity to a diverse academic community, fostering an inclusive environment for students, faculty, and staff from a variety of social, economic, cultural, ideological, racial, and ethnic backgrounds.
Provides oversight to the Centre Student Advocates.
Hires/recruits, trains, supervises and evaluates paid and/or volunteer student staff, interns, and peer educators;
Provides support for students and student organizations through one on one and group mentoring, leadership development, and organizational support;
Assists in the creation and delivery of innovative primary prevention programs, harm reduction strategies, and awareness events facilitated by peer educators.
Assists with department leadership, strategic planning and implementation of policies and procedures.
Identify and establish new community partnerships that will promote outreach, innovation, and advance prevention programing;
Creates and implements training and development activities for student leadership groups;
Support implementation of campus health related screening efforts and assessments;
Represent the office to, and interact on a daily basis with administrators, faculty, staff, students and families, and outside organizations and individuals.
Education and Experience
Entry level position with preferred Bachelor’s degree in public health, health promotion, health education, social work, or related field;
Demonstrated familiarity with mental health issues common to college students;
Knowledgeable of current research and best practices in the field of health promotion, public health, behavior change, and organizational change;
Familiar with evidence-based models of individual behavior change;
Demonstrated skill employing evidence-based strategies to develop, implement and evaluate comprehensive health promotion initiatives using a public health approach; and
Experience providing training on health promotion topics to employees, trainees, and others
Knowledge and Skills
Strong communication skills;
Ability to maintain personal well-being and composure in a fast-paced work environment;
Excellent leadership and public speaking skills
Strong knowledge and comfort working with mental health, sexual health, substance use/AOD, fitness, and nutrition in higher education settings;
Willingness to be trained on FERPA, Title IX, HIPAA, Campus SaVE Act, and other compliance standards and reporting practices;
Must demonstrate ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment needed to handle confidential information, documents and communication within the office;
Have a willingness to become a QPR certified trainer and assist in QPR Suicide Prevention training for campus groups, as well as, willingness to receive additional trainings as identified through student health data;
Ability to develop and implement social media campaigns;
Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook) required.

Limited pushing, pulling, lifting.
Lifting would not exceed 50 lbs.
Mobility on campus necessary,
Valid driver’s license is required.
