Who We Are:
The CALS School of Integrative of Plant Science (SIPS) encompasses five fields: Horticulture, Plant Biology, Plant Breeding & Genetics, Plant Pathology and Plant-Microbe Biology, and Soil and Crop Sciences. Combined there are 100+ faculty, ~200 undergraduate majors, 200+ graduate students in six fields, and 600+ other employees located in Ithaca, Geneva, and other satellite locations across New York State. The School offers the multidisciplinary undergraduate major in the Plant Sciences and is also home to the Agricultural Sciences major. School faculty also contribute to the Biology, Global Development, and Viticulture & Enology majors.
What you will do:
We are seeking a Temporary Lab and Research Technician to work within the Soil and Crop Sciences section. This position will support the multistate weed emergence project, "Weed Emergence in a Changing Climate", through field work and travel to support partners in nearby states. Work will include weed seedling identification, fielding questions and providing technical support to colleagues, managing equipment and other duties as needed. Travel to nearby states is part of the position.
Research Support:
- Assist investigators in management of research project and data management
- Purchase, prepare, and ship materials to collaborators for use in field work
Lab Support:
- Provide routine technical lab support for a research program and/or facility
- Maintain standard research records and databases
Data Collection:
- Collect field data and samples, including weed species identification and seed collecting
- Assist collaborators with data collection and seed collecting
What We Need:
- High school diploma and up to 1 year of relevant experience or equivalent combination
- Experience with Microsoft office suite - including Word, PowerPoint and Excel and familiarity with outlook
- Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written formats with faculty, staff and students
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and to lift up to 50 pounds
- Must have and maintain a valid and unrestricted NYS driver's license and be cleared to drive for university business
Preferred qualifications:
- Prior experience with agronomy, either in a commercial or research setting
- Experience with weed identification in the Northeast or central Atlantic regions
- Project management experience
- Be able to work outside in all types of weather
This is a full-time, 39 hour per week, May 2025 through September 2025 appointment, located fully onsite at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY.
Pay range for this position is $18.50 - $22.00 per hour.
This position is not benefits eligible. This position is not available for Visa Sponsorship or relocation.
