POSITION SUMMARY
The Elementary Principal serves as the instructional leader and chief administrator of the school, responsible for directing and continuously improving the instructional program, managing site operations, evaluating and supporting staff, and fostering a strong community-school relationship. The Principal ensures a safe, inclusive, and effective learning environment that supports student achievement, staff professional growth, and the social-emotional development of elementary school learners.
ADMINISTRATIVE RELATIONSHIP
Reports directly to the Superintendent or designee and is responsible for the supervision and evaluation of all certificated and classified personnel assigned to the school. Works closely with the District Office to ensure alignment with district policies, strategic priorities, and accountability measures.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Serves as an instructional leader, fostering a school culture focused on high expectations, student achievement, and continuous improvement.
Supports any and all programs on the school campus, including Early Childhood Education programs, Special Education programs, intersession, and before and afterschool programs.
Leads instructional leadership teams to drive professional learning, implement high-impact instructional strategies, and ensure curriculum alignment with state and national standards.
Develops, implements, and evaluates a rigorous, standards-based curriculum that integrates interdisciplinary learning and prepares students for success in middle school.
Encourages and supports instructional methodologies that foster student engagement, critical thinking, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
Promotes vertical and horizontal curriculum alignment to support cohesive learning progressions across all grade levels.
Provides leadership in implementing Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) and intervention strategies to address diverse student needs.
Ensures the full implementation of special education services, collaborating with staff to support Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and compliance with state and federal mandates.
Oversees and supports social-emotional learning frameworks, ensuring that students’ developmental needs are met through academic and behavioral support systems.
Integrates educational technology and digital literacy into instruction to enhance student engagement, learning, and assessment practices.
Provides coaching and guidance to teachers through classroom observations, feedback cycles, and data-driven instructional planning.
Implements and supports restorative justice practices and behavioral interventions to maintain a positive school culture.
Oversees student classroom placement to support academic growth, differentiated instruction, and the needs of diverse learners.
Ensures equitable student class assignments and intervention opportunities based on academic data and social-emotional needs.
Works closely with counseling and special education teams to integrate students with IEPs, 504 Plans, and other specialized services into class placements.
Supervises and evaluates certificated and classified staff to ensure high-quality instruction and school operations.
Leads professional development initiatives, ensuring that teachers engage in training on best instructional practices, curriculum updates, and assessment strategies.
Provides targeted instructional coaching to improve lesson delivery and student engagement.
Facilitates collaborative professional learning opportunities and builds teacher leadership capacity.
Identifies, assigns, and coordinates staff training programs aligned with district initiatives, focusing on instructional leadership, curriculum development, and student engagement.
Supports teachers in using formative and summative assessments to adjust instruction and improve student outcomes.
Ensures that all staff members engage in reflective practice and continuous professional growth.
Develops and enforces policies and procedures to maintain a safe, positive, and inclusive school environment.
Implements school structures to support and build a positive school culture and restorative practices to create a culture of respect, responsibility, and accountability.
Leads crisis intervention, discipline management, and emergency preparedness planning in collaboration with the district and local agencies.
Oversees student behavior, discipline, and attendance, ensuring equitable enforcement of policies and appropriate intervention strategies.
Implements programs addressing social and emotional challenges, including anti-bullying initiatives, mental health supports, and peer mediation programs.
Develops and maintains strong partnerships with parents, caregivers, community organizations, and local businesses to support student learning.
Leads efforts to promote family engagement, including parent education workshops, school forums, and volunteer opportunities.
Communicates effectively with stakeholders to provide updates on school initiatives, student progress, and areas for improvement.
Facilitates community engagement efforts to build strong relationships between the school and external organizations.
Ensures compliance with district policies, state accountability measures, and federal and state education laws.
Manages school budgeting, fiscal responsibility, and resource allocation, ensuring alignment with district priorities.
Ensures adherence to special education mandates, curriculum standards, assessments, and English learner programs.
Participates in district leadership meetings and contributes to policy development, instructional planning, and school improvement efforts.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of TK-5 curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices, including best practices in differentiation and student engagement.
Expertise in instructional leadership, with a proven ability to guide and support instructional leadership teams.
Strong understanding of MTSS, social-emotional learning frameworks, and behavioral interventions.
Proficiency in using data analysis to drive instructional improvements and school-wide interventions.
Strong leadership and organizational skills, with the ability to inspire and lead teams toward shared goals.
Effective communication, public relations, and conflict resolution skills.
Knowledge of school safety procedures, crisis management, and emergency response.
Ability to establish a collaborative, inclusive school culture that values equity, diversity, and academic excellence.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
Serves as a visible and engaged instructional leader, actively participating in classroom observations, staff meetings, and student activities.
Leads school-wide initiatives that promote a culture of academic excellence, equity, and student success.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or designee.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Minimum of five (5) years of successful teaching or school-based experience.
Minimum of three (3) years of successful school-site administrative experience.
Possession of a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership, Curriculum, or a related field desirable, Doctorate preferred.
CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES
Possession of a valid California Administrative Services Credential.
Possession of English Learner Authorization.
Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator’s License.
