St. Mary’s School seeks a Digital Fabrication Technician to join our new Design Center team. This is an exciting opportunity to support a vibrant culture of creativity, exploration, and design thinking in a K–8 environment. The St. Mary’s Design Center is a new and nearly complete facility entirely dedicated to leveraging the design thinking process to encourage creative and problem-solving thinking.

The Design Center includes age-appropriate tools, materials, and digital fabrication equipment serving Kindergarten through 8th grade students. The ideal candidate will thrive in a makerspace setting, support students and teachers across disciplines, and help cultivate a community of curiosity, collaboration, and creative confidence.

JOB DESCRIPTION

DIGITAL FABRICATION TECHNICIAN

 Reports to:     Director of Design Center

Status:            Full-time, salaried, exempt, 10 month, position (beginning August 25, 2025)

Purpose:         To support students and faculty across disciplines, and help cultivate a community of curiosity, collaboration and creative confidence.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Oversee, maintain, and support the safe operation of digital fabrication tools (e.g., laser cutters, 3D printers, vinyl cutters, CNC machines) and other Design Center equipment.
• Collaborate with faculty to support design-based projects across grade levels and subject areas.
• Model best practices around tool use, workspace safety, and project planning.
• Provide hands-on technical support and troubleshooting for machines and equipment.
• Inspire and guide students and teachers in using tools and materials with confidence and creativity through workshops and training.
• Help build a culture of design thinking, iteration, and intentional making.
• Stay current with new tools and technologies, and be eager to learn and grow alongside the community.
• Support the School and its leadership.
• Other duties as required by the Director of Design, Director of Technology, and Head of School.

Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Education, Design Technology, Engineering, or related field.
• Experience teaching STEM, Design, or Maker Education (PK-8 setting is preferred).
• Adept with digital design tools such as Adobe Creative Cloud and CAD Solid Modeling Software (Fusion 360, Solidworks, Rhino, or similar tools).
• Comfortable using and maintaining Digital fabrication tools like 3D Printers, Laser Cutters, Vinyl Cutters, Embroidery, and CNC is a plus.
• Experience in workshop environments and confidence using power tools, including saws, hand drills, and drill presses.
• Strong organizational and project management skills for scheduling and inventory management.
• Ability to manage a dynamic, hands-on learning environment with a focus on creativity and collaboration.
• Passion for design, engineering, and problem-solving with young learners.
• Strong written and oral communication skills with an ability to communicate effectively with all stakeholders of the school.
• Highly ethical team player.
