Pine Point School, a PreK-9th-grade school, seeks to hire a School Librarian and Information Technology Specialist to maintain an engaging library community and scaffold and differentiate lessons and experiences for students as needed. The successful candidate will create a program that meets the needs of engaged learners of all ages. We seek a passionate and collaborative leader to join our thoughtful faculty and support our program. This full-time role will commence in August 2025.
The Geise Library consists of a main library space, a Design Lab, a work room, a “story-time” area, two teaching areas, two conference rooms, and a lounge area with comfortable seating and a fireplace. The library may be filled with student classes, group meetings for parents, teachers, students, and trustees, Evergreen courses in the afternoons, evenings, and weekends, and many other activities.
Job Goals:
1) To ensure that students are ethical and effective users and creators of ideas and information;
2) to empower students to be critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and savvy users of information;
3) to promote intellectual curiosity in all and ensure access to information and ideas;
4) to collaborate with classroom teachers and specialists to design and implement lessons and units of instruction, integrate information literacy skills at the point of need, and assess student learning and instructional effectiveness;
5) to develop a contemporary and engaging library program based on current research and student interest; and
6) to provide the leadership and expertise necessary to ensure that the school library program is aligned with the school's mission, goals, and objectives and is an integral component of teaching and learning.
Skills, Knowledge, and Attributes
A love of working with children of all ages and understanding the PreK - middle school developmental spans.
Create and maintain a vibrant library, provide excellent instruction, and communicate effectively with colleagues, parents, and students.
Establish a safe and inclusive library environment where students feel comfortable taking risks through self-discovery, collaboration, and community engagement.
Design and deliver curriculum and instruction in literary appreciation, research, digital/information literacy, digital citizenship, and presentation skills appropriate to each grade level.
Implement and advance the library and media curriculum that prepares students to navigate multiple forms of media.
Collaborate with teachers to design an integrated curriculum that teaches research and information technology skills through progressive, inquiry-based learning with rich content and cultural competency at the center.
Manage the Design Lab and its resources and materials, such as the 3-D printer, Cricut, Glowforge, and recording and presenting devices.
Have enthusiasm for consuming, sharing, and creating content in different forms (e.g., books, videos, podcasts) and model this enthusiasm for students, faculty, and parents.
Provide professional development on technology skills and responsible use for teachers and parents
Manage, maintain, and develop the library in both the physical space and materials, as well as the digital world and online resources such as information databases.
Manage the budget for all library and related expenditures.
Work with and cultivate new library volunteers.
Provide project management for events and broader library initiatives such as Book Fairs. This includes managing a master calendar of all events in the shared library space.
Assist with advisory and other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
An MLIS degree is or in process is preferred, and experience in modern school librarianship, including teaching students and guiding learners with all relevant aspects of technology and media.
Prior elementary/middle school library experience is preferable.
Preferred candidates will have two years of classroom experience.
