The School of Public Health Division of Environmental Health Sciences is seeking applications for a full-time Engineer (Research Professional 3 - Civil/Environmental/Geotechnical Engineering 8353EV) to join the Minnesota Technical Assistance Program (MnTAP).

Starting pay is dependent upon the selected candidateâ™s relevant qualifications, experience, and internal equity: $68,000 to $75,000.

This is a hybrid position with 2 days in the office which means that the incumbent has the option to remotely part of the time. Onsite location: McNamara Alumni Center, 200 Oak Street, Minneapolis, MN 55455.
You must be able to travel independently to various sites throughout the metro and to sites in greater Minnesota utilizing provided fleet vehicles. Travel will frequently include sites within the metro area and regularly include sites in greater Minnesota, with infrequent overnight trips. These site visits will occur at least a couple of times per month.
General Purpose & Objective
The Minnesota Technical Assistance Program (MnTAP) is an outreach and assistance program at the University of Minnesota that helps Minnesota businesses develop and implement industry tailored solutions that prevent pollution at the source, maximize efficient use of resources, and reduce energy use and cost. This position reports to a MnTAP Senior Engineer and provides engineering technical assistance and support focused on eliminating the cause of pollution or excess resource use at the source for businesses throughout Minnesota. The position will initially focus on joining the PFAS Source Reduction project team to assist with technical assistance including discovering PFAS sources, identifying alternatives, and creating education tools and materials. Several important responsibilities of this position include:
· Provide technical assistance for pollution prevention, water conservation and energy efficiency · Serve as a technical resource for businesses while developing expertise in target industry sectors · Conduct site visits and coordinate MnTAP interns to deliver technical assistance · Supervise student intern and manage collaborative partner research projects · Review and update business resources to promote industrial conservation opportunities · Conduct technical training and give technical presentations in areas of expertise
Key Responsibilities
Technical Assistance â“ 60%
Lead and manage grant-funded projects focused on improving efficiency and reducing pollution.
Provide clear, accurate guidance to businesses on reducing waste, saving water, and using energy more efficientlyâ”through training, emails/calls, site visits, and student intern projects.
Write site specific reports with tailored recommendations, including engineering and cost analysis.
Stay up to date on relevant technologies, regulations, and industry programs.
Maintain and update technical resources on MnTAPâ™s website.
Conduct outreach campaigns to bring in new clients and industries.
Collaborate with industry partners to support intern projects and client goals.
Supervise and mentor students on research projects in your area of expertise.
Project Tracking and Client Follow-Up â“ 20%
Assist client efforts to implement suggested improvements with follow-up support and resources.
Track and document environmental and cost savings from implemented changes.
Use an internal client database to record activities, outcomes, and ongoing client relationships.
Networking and Coordination â“ 20%
Work with MPCA and other partners to identify opportunities to collaborate and grow MnTAPâ™s services.
Engage with relevant trade or business groups to share information and support industry sectors with targeted projects.
Provide support for internal efforts such as developing online resources, mentoring staff, and leading collaborative projects.
Join team and staff meetings to share ideas, collaborate, and strengthen team connections.

Required Qualifications
BA/BS in an engineering discipline with at least 4 years of experience or a combination of related education and work experience to equal 8 years
