Position:
Millinary Instructor. This class covers the principles and processes of hat-making. It will focus on the form and function of specific hats along with the design, pattern, and creation of mock-ups necessary for successful execution. Students will become familiar with the available equipment and supplies of the craft, constructing structural foundations from materials such as buckram, wire, and felt while utilizing blocking techniques and flat patterns. Application of fabric coverings and linings, as well as trimmings and embellishments will be explored
Job Description:
We seek a part-time faculty member to join our faculty. To be considered, please submit materials as indicated below.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Versed in traditional and contemporary art and design practices
- Ability to work with analog and digital processes within the classroom space
- Specific skill sets required to teach Introduction to Fiber
- Ability to work with a range of students in a rigorous art and design learning context
- The ability to successfully engage a diverse student body
- Collaborative and collegial approach to working the MICA community
Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree
- A strong record of professional excellence as demonstrated by a portfolio work and exhibition activity or the equivalent
- Personal commitment to teaching on a college level
- Proficiency in a range of techniques applicable in the Fiber program courses
- Candidate will be required to complete a full background check
Preferred Qualifications:
- MFA or equivalent experience
- College/University teaching beyond assistantships
- Experience working with communities outside of the home institution

Additional Information:
Salary: $4,515.00 - $7,656.00 Commensurate with experience and the Collective Bargaining Agreement. The part-time faculty are represented by the SEIU Local 500.
Physical demands and work environment:
- Physical Demands: While performing the duties of job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop; talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. (may be adjusted depending on position)
- Work environment: While performing the duties of the job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.
