York College, founded in 1966, is a center of academic excellence in the heart of Jamaica, Queens. One of the eleven senior colleges in The City University of New York, the College?s mission is to enrich students' lives by fostering an environment where they?ll grow into passionate and engaged learners.
York?s academic programs are housed in three schools: The School of Arts & Sciences, The School of Business and Information Systems, and The School of Health Sciences and Professional Programs. Over sixty baccalaureate programs from across a variety of disciplines, including accounting, aviation management, business, computer science, journalism, social work, teacher education, a dual BS/MS degree in Occupational Therapy, and one of the top-ranked nursing programs in New York State, provide students with opportunities to study liberal arts, sciences, and professional programs. The College also offers six graduate programs: Aviation Management, Clinical Trials Management, Pharmaceutical Science and Business, Physician Assistant, Social Work and Nursing Education.

Reporting directly to the Director of Student Support Services. The EOC Academic Advisor works closely with all EOC center staff, especially within Student Support Services. The successful candidate is assigned to provide advisement, support and monitor the academic progress and success of EOC students enrolled primarily in foundational programs to advance to academic studies programs or achieve outcomes with a credential or certificate. The EOC Academic Advisor, in coordination with other EOC staff, assists EOC students in the identification of career interests and/or post-secondary options. Assists in the development of in-person, hybrid, or remote orientation programs, related workshops, partner program coordination, establishing tutorial assistance and academic success plans for students encountering academic difficulty. Responsible for the completion of regular case manager notes, monthly and quarterly reports that are required measurements of EOC performance standards utilizing the EOC Student Data Management system. The EOC Academic Advisor also identifies and establishes community linkages related to literacy, internships, and other initiatives that positively impact the center?s foundational and academic studies programs as well as complies with EOC guidelines and programmatic operational policies and procedures to meet student objectives and outcomes.
Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Establish and maintain an active advisement relationship with EOC students participating in English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL); foundational High School Equivalency, Digital Literacy and other assigned foundational academic programs requiring initiative-taking student engagement, follow-up and monitored outreach/support.
Assist retention efforts to monitor and retain students? progress in EOC programs.
Assist students in the development of academic skills such as time management, note taking, test taking, study habits, use of Aztec and other academic resources.
Provide support to specialized populations such as disabled students and veterans e.g., search for appropriate local services, request accommodations for specific disabilities, etc.
Support students in coordination with the College Connections Initiative Coordinator regarding college admission procedures and enrichments activities e.g., College Fair.
Work closely with faculty and other student services personnel to facilitate educational planning and advisement for new and continuing students.
Assist in the planning and development of "Power Hour" scheduling that includes outreach, and referral strategies.
Assist annual planning of special activities/projects to meet EOC programs, staff coordination and student needs related to academic performance, progress, and positive outcomes.
Review and distribute electronic midterm evaluations with recommendations to support student persistence and improved program performance.
Adhere to and establish procedures to meet all expected statewide program-based performance standards related to the academic preparation and performance of EOC students.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree required.
At least three (3) years? related experience working with an economically and academically, culturally diverse, underprepared population of adult learners. Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills and proficient in data entry in a CRM system, and organizational skills are essential.
Preferred Qualifications
Master?s in Education, Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or an appropriate field.

$54,268 - $62,289 - Salary commensurate with education and experience.
CUNY is in the process of implementing salary schedule increases. Once implemented, salaries of eligible employees will be adjusted by 6.09% with additional increases of 3.25% effective 9/1/2025 and 3.5% effective 9/1/26, in accordance with the terms of the PSC-CUNY collective bargaining agreement.
