The Urban Systems Lab at NYU seeks a Senior Research Scientist / Associate Research Professor to lead strategic research and project management for the Urban Systems Lab and related urban ecology research. . This role will spearhead interdisciplinary research on co-production and community-based engagement strategies, developing tools, technical assistance, and science communication products to enhance advocacy and community-led planning. This role will provide strategic research leadership to advance the Urban Systems Lab?s mission, offering technical program oversight, strategic insights, and coordination support to enhance the impact of the Lab?s research teams and initiatives. The position will focus on guiding program development, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, and ensuring the effective integration of research findings into actionable climate resilience strategies.
The successful candidate will collaborate with municipal agencies, community organizations, and global research networks to translate research into actionable climate strategies. This position requires expertise in climate resilience and adaptation, stakeholder engagement, and policy integration, with opportunities to mentor graduate researchers, lead interdisciplinary teams, and publish high-impact research.
Responsibilities
Lead research on coproduction and engagement strategies to enhance urban climate adaptation and resilience in urban areas.
Provide project management, and support UXR and stakeholder engagement for ClimateIQ, an AI-powered climate risk tool.
Develop science communication products, including technical reports, policy briefs, and digital tools.
Engage with policymakers, municipal agencies, and community organizations to integrate research into decision-making.
Publish findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at national and international conferences.
Provide mentorship and training for graduate researchers and interdisciplinary teams.
In compliance with NYC?s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary for this position is $87,500. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.
PhD in Environmental Science, Urban Planning, Engineering, or a related field.
Minimum 5 years of postdoctoral or equivalent experience in urban resilience, climate adaptation, or environmental policy.
Expertise in interdisciplinary research methods, urban resilience, and community-led planning.
Demonstrated experience in stakeholder engagement, policy development, and interdisciplinary research.
Strong publication record and experience securing external research funding.
