Description
Under the general supervision of management, the shop/Lab technician will support the day-to-day operation of the Fine Arts Light Lab and Computer Lab. They join a team committed to fostering a safe, innovative, and robust culture of creating, and will provide students with practical technical support that will guide their practice in and beyond their time at Pratt.
Examples of Duties
Duties specific to Department/Position:
Maintain archive of student work
Photograph events and exhibition openings
Light Lab Equipment:
AV equipment and moving image software used by Fine Arts MFA students for digital multi-media work. A green screen is also available as needed.
Light Lab responsibilities:
Researching equipment
Purchasing
Maintaining and repairing digital equipment
Training students in the use of software and equipment
Assist students in production and postproduction
Assist students in documenting work
Maintain archive of student work
Computer Lab Equipment: Fine Arts classroom equipment, computer lab, and Light Lab computers and printers
Computer Lab responsibilities:
Research new purchases
Coordinate computer/printer setup, installation, maintenance, and upgrade with IT hardware installation and maintenance, including peripherals software and operating system upgrades.
Technical support to faculty and students
Occasional training
AV Tech: Fine Arts department-owned projectors, media players, sound systems, cameras, and recording devices.
Manages AV equipment permanently installed in classrooms, gallery, and the box.
AV tech Lab responsibilities:
Photograph events and exhibition openings
Researching equipment
Purchasing
Maintaining, installing, and repairing AV equipment
Managing loans and return of equipment
Assist students as needed
Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent work experience required. If applicable to shop, may require a certificate of fitness or safety license.
Experience:
Minimum of five years related experience and thorough knowledge of facility's equipment.
Skills:
Understanding of health and safety regulations, both Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Institutional. Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse population of students and staff and demonstrate intercultural competence.
Other:
Occasional weekend work during spring and fall semesters. Occasional overtime may be required at the end of each semester.
