Assists higher level administrators as applicable to the assigned area in the general oversight of operations and services, including supervision of staff. Works under direction and receives assignments and orders in general terms and is usually expected to complete an assignment within a determined time frame but is free to work out the details and sequences. Interprets regulations, policies, etc. for the guidance of other employees or the public.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Supervises staff; assigns and reviews work; establishes timeframes for the completion of assigned tasks; trains and orients new employees; approves/disapproves requests for paid leaves; interviews candidates for employment and makes recommendations for hire; evaluates employee work performance; receives and responds to grievances; provides assistance with the development of unit work procedures and policies.
Researches and makes recommendations to supervisor regarding assigned area's policies and procedures as it relates to completion of work and/or provision of services.
Prepares reports and other information/documentation to assist the supervisor in strategic planning of the assigned area.
Ensures the day-to-day functionality and assists administrators in the general oversight of the assigned area's operations and services as related to any assigned program, initiative, or objective. Directs and/or coordinates daily tasks related to one or more assigned components of a department's/division's overall programs and/or services.
Regularly communicates with supervisor and other staff, including student workers, as required or needed in the completion of daily tasks in support of the department's/division's overall goals and objectives.
Prepares and maintains accurate records of daily tasks in accordance with the department's/division's (or University's) policies and procedures and assures timely communication with supervisor, staff, and students where appropriate.
Gathers data and prepares reports and other information/documentation for supervisory review?related to the department's/division's programs and/or services, or one or more assigned components thereof.
Prepares for and attends events.
Remains informed of current developments and procedures pertinent to duties; participates in staff development activities; attends meetings, conferences, and other events.
Other Functions and Responsibilities: Assists with training new hires.
Performs other duties as assigned and/or required that are within the level of responsibility for this classification at the discretion of the supervisor.
Equipment Operated: Computer and all other standard office equipment.
Work Schedule: Typically, Monday through Friday. Must be able to work occasional weekends and/or evenings.
Supervision Exercised: Supervision may be exercised over staff and student employees.
Reports to: Director, Campus Recreation
Required Certifications, Training, and/or Licensures: Current certifications in First Aid, CPR, AED, ACE, ACSM; Oxygen Administration; Group Fitness Instructor and Personal Trainer; Instructor certifications for CPR and First Aid Wellness related certifications and NIRSA.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Minimum Qualifications: At least a bachelor's degree in a health or wellness related field; professional experience in a related field; experience with technology equipment and software that is designed for facility management, accessibility and tracking management, program registration management, and/or budget management; and experience in recreation membership operations and facility operations management.
Preferred Qualifications: A bachelor's degree in exercise science in exercise physiology, recreation management, sports management, kinesiology, education. Master's degree. Four or more years of professional experience in recreation programming with event operations and budget management in a higher education environment. Three or more years of professional experience in facility operation and budget management. Experience supervising employees. Experience with Innosoft Fusion and/or Banner. Experience working with policies and procedures which govern budget development, purchasing, payroll, chargebacks, contracted services, and other budget related services. Knowledge of student development and best practices in recreation, event management, educational programs, facilities and risk management practices, emergency response procedures, fitness equipment and maintenance. Experience coordinating and evaluating services based on current fitness, wellness, and facility management trends, as well as other recreation areas.
