Landon School is seeking a passionate and dedicated Theater Arts Teacher to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in theater and a commitment to fostering creativity and confidence in students. This role involves teaching drama classes to boys in Grades 6-12, directing school productions, and collaborating with other faculty members to integrate performing arts into the broader curriculum.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and implement engaging lesson plans that align with curriculum standards and promote student creativity.
Teach various aspects of theater, including acting, directing, stagecraft, and theater history.
Direct and produce school plays, musicals, and other performances.
Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student participation and growth.
Assess and evaluate student performance and provide constructive feedback in a timely manner consistent with divisional expectations.
Collaborate with other teachers and staff to integrate drama into interdisciplinary projects.
Co-manage theater equipment and resources with the Director of Studio and Performing Arts.
Stay current with developments in theater education and incorporate new techniques and technologies into teaching.
Essential Functions
Anility to plan, organize, and implement instructional programs for students that guide and encourage them to develop and fulfill their academic and school potential. This includes coaching and mentoring students. Encourage community involvement, communicate with students, colleagues, and parents in-person, via email, and on the phone.
Actively participate in professional development to remain current with best practices in education and technology.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective professional working relationships with others including colleagues, parents, and other community members. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Demonstrate professional standards of presentation, punctuality and in-person work on a regular basis, and discretion.
Required to be able to respond to the School’s emergency plan, ensuring safety of students during a crisis.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Theater, Drama, Performing Arts, or a related field (Master's degree preferred)
Teaching certification or relevant teaching experience
Ability to work positively and collaboratively with a diverse group of students and staff
Experience directing and producing theatrical performances
Strong knowledge of theater techniques, history, and production
Ability to inspire and motivate students of all skill levels
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Organizational skills and attention to detail
Flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic educational environment
Preferred Skills
Experience with technical theater, including lighting, sound, and set design
Background in improvisation and creative drama techniques
Proficiency in using digital tools and software for theater production
Working Conditions
Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, hear, speak, reach with hands and arms, bend, and lift and/or carry equipment up to 20 lbs. Consistently operates a computer and other office equipment. Works inside buildings and outside across a 75-acre campus in all types of weather. Occasional nights and weekend hours required.
