Salary Details:
Salary and rank are commensurate with qualifications and experience, minimum salary starting at $100,000. Release time will be allocated to serve as the Program Coordinator for the Counseling and Human Resource Development academic unit. We offer a generous retirement plan that includes 6% matching, 10 hours of annual leave each month, 9.34 hours of sick leave each month, and eleven paid holidays. Relocation benefits are available per university’s guidelines.

The School of Education, Counseling, and Human Development (SECHD) invites applications for this important leadership role in the Counseling and Human Resource Development program (Brookings and Rapid City campuses). The incoming faculty member will lead and coordinate the program reporting directly to the School Director, Dr. Anne Karabon. This position is located in Brookings, South Dakota and is a 12-month, full-time, tenure-track, benefits eligible position. The expected start of June 2025.
The Assistant Director will coordinate the counseling program, serve as the CACREP liaison and ensure the maintenance of CACREP and state standards. The Assistant Director will actively engage with all stakeholders, including the students, staff, faculty, and stakeholders at both campus locations, teach graduate students, and be responsible for responding to inquiries regarding the overall academic unit while maintaining an active research/scholarship agenda.
Key administrative and leadership responsibilities for this position are to cultivate a climate of excellence and collegiality across the program,provide input and make recommendations regarding continuous improvement, assist with identifying and securing adjunct faculty, review program faculty workloads and budgetary considerations, oversee the admissions process, and other duties as assigned to the position.
This position requires in-person teaching in Brookings, South Dakota.

Key Responsibilities:
Lead the counseling program to maintain accreditation standards with CACREP and meet state licensure and certification standards, including submission of reports.
Manage curricular reviews (course schedules, plans of study, curriculum changes, and catalog updates) and fall, spring, and summer course schedules.
Actively participate in recruitment, hiring, and retention of Core and temporary faculty.
Lead the Assessment Committee by collaborating closely with faculty to implement the assessment plan and maintain curriculum quality.
Engage in budget planning and effectively manage the operational budget (under the direction of the Director of SECHD).
Actively participate in the recruitment and retention of undergraduate and graduate students, using student-centered approaches that support positive outcomes for all students.
Assist with faculty, staff, and student mentoring.
Contribute to teaching high quality courses in various formats (face-to-face, hybrid, and online) and provide support for new digital delivery cohort.
Engage in scholarly activity, creative achievement, and/or research to support the mission and goals of the Counseling and Human Resource Development (CHRD) program.
Represent the school to internal and external constituencies in coordination with the Director (i.e. Through engaging and develop community relationships and supporting development/foundation/fundraising efforts).
Other duties as assigned by the School Director or Dean of the College of Education and Human Sciences
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Earned doctorate from a CACREP-accredited Counselor Education program by start of position or an equivalent doctorate plus one year full-time in a CACREP accredited counseling program prior to the 2012-2013 school year.
Eligibility for licensure and/or certification in the state of South Dakota.
Knowledge of CACREP standards and trends in counselor education.
Leadership ability.
Evidence of ability to teach in university settings (on-campus and online).
Evidence of scholarly activity, publication, and success in obtaining funding to support a sustained research program.
Clinical supervision skills.
Actively identify with the counseling profession through sustained memberships in counseling organizations; the maintenance of certifications and/or licenses pertinent to the counseling specialty area(s); and, sustained professional development and renewal activities related to counseling, professional service and advocacy in counseling, and research and scholarly activity in counseling.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience with CACREP accreditation self-study reports and/or site visits.
