What will I be doing in this role?
The Senior Construction Project Manager is responsible for the development of all assigned projects from inception through project close-out and is responsible for the successful delivery of these projects and includes larger more complex health system projects (ie. $20M+, multi-phased acute-care, ground-up, or technical projects) that span a variety of project types, size and budget. The Senior Construction Project Manager is responsible for advising and managing outsourced construction management firms, architectural firms, and general contractors. Additionally, the Senior Construction Project Manager collaborates and works with the department architects, resource accounting and support staff from initial project inception through successful project completion. Oversees construction projects assigned at the Main Medical Center and/or off-site, including the scheduling of and coordination of vendors, monitoring progress and providing progress reports including through internal project management software, meetings and reporting structures.
Department-Specific Duties and Responsibilities include the following, but are not limited to:
Responsible for managing team assigned to departmental projects. Specifically, for Project Management, Cost Control, Technical Advisory Staff etc. This includes larger more complex project types across the health system.
Participates in entire project evaluation and development. Makes appropriate project recommendations to the department manager and department project managers concerning cost, scheduling, and construction issues.
Manages work of department staff on all new projects including Support Specialist, Project Coordinators, Planner/Designer, Interiors staff, Signage/Wayfinding and Administrative Assistants. Works closely with users and partners to budget their time and commitment in order to get the appropriate operational feedback and input.
Initiates and participates in productivity and quality improvements, including benchmarking with other facilities and supervising progress. Leads efforts to improve project delivery, internal processes and procedures through participation in task forces, internal meetings and may participate in system-wide committees related to construction safety, infection control and jurisdictional and accreditation requirements.
Prepares, reviews and monitors budgets and all project dollar expenditure financial performance. Uses knowledge to assist in broader departmental budgeting exercises.
Supervises the construction process including the scheduling of vendors, monitoring of progress, and providing progress reports. Reviews and evaluates the general condition of the project location as it applies to current or future projects.
Monitors project compliance with all Medical Center polices, OSHPD policies, OSHA requirements, federal/state/local regulations, and Joint Commission requirements.
Serves as both part of the design team and construction team. Makes contact on a routine basis with customers and works closely with all Facilities Management team members to improve customer service, including other internal departments that contribute to the successful delivery of projects. Will act as an example to others in the department through mentorship and conducting departmental training.
Supervises the Maintenance and updating of project data into a CSMC project management and as-built plan system. This includes establishing new procedures and processes to improve project delivery and data maintenance.
Identifies risk areas, and develops and implements mitigation plans.
Serves as point of escalation for resolution of complex construction related issues, disputes, and disagreements.
Oversees change management process and manages large changes and disputes.
Establishes effective working relationships with cross-functional team(s).
Cultivates and maintains strong customer relationships and rapport with partners and/or business groups.
Identifies and responds appropriately to both internal and external customer needs using available resources.
Qualifications
Requirements:
High School Diploma/GED is required.
Bachelor?s Degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering or other related field is preferred.
Ten (10) years of progressive experience in the construction and renovation of health care facilities is required with proven ability to administer all phases of health facility construction.
Fifteen (15) years of progressive experience in the construction and renovation of health care facilities is preferred with proven ability to administer all phases of health facility construction.
Valid CA Driver?s License required for offsite projects.
Licenses and Certifications:
Project Management Professional (PMP) is preferred.
Experience/Skills we are seeking:
Ability to foster participation/collaboration among individuals and groups. Through their knowledge, also assists to onboard, train and mentor staff.
Ability to initiate, plan, design, implement, and supervise project(s). This may include participation in internal task forces and process improvement exercises to improve project delivery.
Ability to apply knowledge of accounting principles to create and oversee budget(s). Demonstrate knowledge to provide feedback and input on developing, managing, and forecasting for construction budgets.
Ability to interpret and apply knowledge of State, Federal and Agency standards to follow regulations. This includes developing relationships and partnerships with jurisdictions.
