Job Summary:
The Associate Vice President & Chief Data and Analytics Officer at Oberlin College is a key member of College leadership and contributes directly to strategy and mission, analysis and assessment of operations, as well as compliance and accountability. This thought leader reports to the President's Chief of Staff and collaborates with other members of the President's Executive Leadership Team and peers in various offices through the development of aligned, integrated, data-informed and action-oriented plans and recommendations to promote institutional strength and opportunities.
This person will develop, lead, and oversee an expanded and reimagined organization with four key functions: institutional research; enrollment and student success data management; operational effectiveness; and accreditation.
They will be responsible for supporting and implementing the operational vision, developing skills of team members and pursuing a proactive scope of this office. The strategic leader will ensure the data and analyses of this team are accessible and fully leveraged to support strategy development; to identify and resolve key issues; to develop effective policies and plans; and meet compliance requirements. This mission-centric leader will serve on and lead a variety of internal committees and is the institutional representative and coordinates the data reported to the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS), Consortium on Financing Higher Education (COFHE), U.S. News and World Report, and other entities.
Required qualifications:
The successful candidate will have:
Bachelor's degree and ten years of leadership experience in data analytics and strategy in higher education (Master's degree preferred).
Advanced knowledge of research processes, applied statistics, including predictive analytics using industry standard tools to support qualitative and quantitative research.
Prior experience with the development of analytical models.
Knowledge of higher education assessment processes and modes to track, organize and manage assessment data effectively and efficiently.
Strong sense of ethics, values, integrity, and trustworthiness.
Proven ability to develop, make, and communicate complex decisions that reflect both strong analytical capacity and a drive for ongoing improvement.
Proven strategic agility and ability to support innovation in an uncertain environment.
Strong operational and project management skills as reflected in priority setting, organization, and planning.
Proven ability to build an effective team, including recruitment, hiring, staff development, performance management, change management, inspiring others and conveying clear vision and purpose.
Proven ability to work effectively through others (direct reports and work groups) to achieve institutional goals and mission.
Exceptional ability to communicate effectively in all forms of communication.
Proven ability to develop strong, diverse, and cross-functional relationships and collaborations with executive leadership, peers, direct reports, and all those served by the College.
Demonstrated personal flexibility, inquisitiveness, and deep interest in learning.
Proven ability to pivot between strategic and technical work required for the successful operation of this office.
Proficient with Microsoft Office Products, statistical software, and other tools appropriate to quantitative research and analysis (e.g., SPSS, SAS, Stata, R, Tableau).
Proficiency with higher education ERP and learning management or similar systems.
