Emphasizing lab management, competition coaching, and technical expertise Job Title: Innovation Lab Specialist Location:Cornwall, NY, 12520 Job Type: Full-Time Reports To: Supervisor of Innovation Department School Level: High School Job Summary New York Military Academy (short as NYMA) is seeking a highly skilled and competition- experienced Innovation Lab Specialist to oversee our high school maker space, maintain lab equipment, and mentor students in engineering-focused projects. This role prioritizes technical expertise, robotics competitions (VEX, FTC, FRC), and lab operations, rather than direct classroom teaching. Key Responsibilities Manage the daily operations of the high school’s Innovation Lab/Maker Space, ensuring a safe, organized, and functional workspace. Maintain, troubleshoot, and oversee fabrication tools such as 3D printers, CNC machines, laser cutters, electronics, and robotics equipment. Provide hands-on support for robotics teams (VEX, FTC, FRC), including coaching, strategy development, and technical mentoring. Guide students in competition design, prototyping, programming, and mechanical problem- solving. Assist students and faculty in utilizing lab resources for independent projects, research, and engineering challenges. Maintain an up-to-date inventory of lab supplies, order necessary materials, and ensure compliance with safety protocols. Stay current with advancements in robotics, AI, and maker technologies to recommend lab upgrades and improvements. Collaborate with faculty on special projects related to STEM and innovation. Qualifications & Requirements Master’s degree in Engineering, Robotics, Computer Science, or a related technical field. Extensive experience in lab or maker space environments, with hands-on knowledge of digital fabrication and robotics tools. Prior coaching experience in VEX, FTC, or FRC competitions, with a strong record of team success and awards. Advanced proficiency in robotics programming (Python, C++, Java), mechanical design (CAD), and electrical systems. Strong leadership and problem-solving skills to mentor students in real-world engineering challenges. Passion for hands-on learning, student mentorship, and technical innovation.
