Hiring Salary Range: $128,400.00 - $192,600.00

The Manager, Transmission Line oversees Transmission Construction, Maintenance, and Substation activities. Responsibilities include ensuring safety compliance, budget management, project planning, and resource coordination during outages. The role also involves staff development, promoting work and asset management programs, and developing policies to enhance operations. The manager supports interactions with cooperative managers and landowners and keeps the Vice President, Transmission informed of key issues.
The Impact You'll Make In This Role:
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Provide leadership and support to departments and staff by directing, managing, and ensuring overall coordination of work.
2. Responsible for adherence to and participation in the Dairyland safety program by all employees supervised directly and indirectly. Maintain, enhance and communicate all aspects of Dairyland and department safety programs, including performing employee site safety observations.
3. Responsible for budget preparation and continuous monitoring of budget performance for each cost center.
4. Work with department heads and other Operations work groups to plan and execute projects, maximize organizational efficiencies, and establish priorities. Coordinate and manage resources during outage restoration events and other system emergencies as required.
5. Determine appropriate equipment and vehicle needs for assigned work groups and achieve such equipment through appropriately executed business plans. Represent cost centers with capital requirements and recommend new equipment and/or procedures that will increase productivity and/or improve safety.
6. Oversee recruitment, development, management and evaluation of staff and participate as needed in bargaining group matters and negotiations.
7. Ensure team commitment to and participation in Dairyland’s work management program which aims to streamline processes, improve cost efficiency and increase productivity.
8. Ensure team commitment to and participation in Dairyland’s asset management program which aims to enhance the reliability, efficiency and cost effectiveness of transmission infrastructure through regular inspections, improved visibility of asset data, and preventative/predictive maintenance.
9. Develop and implement relevant policies, procedures and programs that positively impact operations in the areas of safety, performance efficiency, reliability, preventative maintenance, system security, personnel, training and labor relations. Responsible for adherence to departmental maintenance, operations, and training programs to optimize resource utilization and equipment life.
10. Develop goals, processes, metrics, and systems for respective areas of responsibility to support and align with Dairyland’s strategic goals and objectives. Support and ensure departmental participation in performance assessments, employee recognition and performance improvement as needed.
11. Responsible for conducting regular staff meetings and submitting verbal and written reports documenting department activity, system status and condition. Ensure that Vice President, Transmission remains fully aware of issues of significance in a timely manner.
12. Interact with and support distribution cooperative managers, member systems personnel and landowners as appropriate.
13. Perform other duties as assigned.
Your Experience and Expertise:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education & Experience: Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or other relevant engineering discipline, or business management equivalent with a minimum of 8 years of experience in one or more of the following areas: generating plant operations and maintenance; electric systems operations and maintenance; system engineering; system planning; or other electric utility operation related areas. Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. Must have working knowledge of engineering economics, project management, process improvement and technical writing. Demonstrated leadership experience. Labor relations experience and working knowledge of labor agreements preferred.
Skills: Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to interface effectively with individuals at various levels. Proficient computer skills with Microsoft Office. Highly developed abilities in management and employee relations. Ability to work effectively with highly skilled technical staff and other utilities.
Other Job Characteristics: Primarily works indoors. Frequent travel to crew locations and member cooperatives. Extended hours and overnight travel sometimes required. Available 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Must represent Dairyland interest in some inter-utility activities.
