Vanguard University is looking for an outstanding teacher with a PhD in Engineering or a related field who would relish mentoring students in a warm and diverse community of people who are serious about following Jesus Christ. This faculty member will teach courses and develop curriculum within the Department of Physical Sciences and Applied Mathematics, which is growing and developing around two programs: Engineering Physics and Computer Science. Courses to be taught include, but are not limited to, Electric Circuits, Electronics, Engineering Statistics, Engineering Dynamics, Embedded Systems, Digital Logic Systems, and Introduction to Material Science. Most courses are taught in-person or a hybrid of in-person and online. The PSAM department is housed within the College of Arts and Sciences, which champions a holistic, Christian liberal arts education. Vanguard faculty are committed to excellence and to integrating faith in their respective disciplines. Founded in 1920, Vanguard has been in Costa Mesa, not far from the Pacific Ocean, since 1950. Today nearly half of our undergraduate students are Hispanic and Vanguard is a federally-designated Hispanic Serving Institution.
Essential Functions:
Teach above-mentioned coursework in engineering.
Challenge thinking and develop the ability of students to engage in discourse and critical thinking.
Help students develop and apply research skills; guide students in development of their projects.
Collaborate with department faculty in curriculum development, student support, and continuous program improvement.
Develop and assist in the implementation of department-level assessment of student learning.
Serve on faculty and or university committees.
Participate in faculty meetings and shared governance.
Guide and counsel students toward personal and career development.
Engage in professional organization activities and scholarly work including, but not limited to, publications and presentations commensurate with experience and academic rank.
Minimum Qualifications:
Ph.D. in Engineering or a related discipline including any specific area of Engineering.
Ability to teach engineering courses effectively.
A vibrant Christian faith, and commitment to an academically rigorous integration of faith and learning
Salary:
Full-time, tenure track position. Rank and salary are commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Assistant Professor: $58,242 to $78,336
Associate Professor: $67,932 to $91,494
Professor: $78,846 to $109,548
Placement at appropriate rank (e.g., Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor) and initial salary is dependent upon education, experience, and based on Vanguard's faculty compensation schedule. The upper range is reserved for candidates that demonstrate the highest level of proficiency within a particular rank. Vanguard University also offers a very competitive and generous benefits package.
Vanguard offers both tenure track and term faculty contracts; the type of contract offered will be determined based on the candidate's qualifications at the time of hire.
