DESCRIPTION
West Los Angeles College is accepting applications for a 0.5 Pathways and Career Readiness Coordinator (maximum of 17.5 hours per week) for WLAC's LA Region K-16 Collaborative grant housed in Academic Affairs. The goal of the LA Region K-16 Collaborative grant is to recruit and coordinate educational and employment partners and build and maintain academic and career pathways for K-16 students and partners in computer science and healthcare in the South Bay region. These pathways would integrate educational and industry certifications and prepare students to successfully transfer to 4-year university partners and into the workforce. This role involves coordinating work-based learning activities, developing structured pathways for student transfers, and implementing comprehensive career advising strategies. The ideal candidate will be dedicated to increasing student transfer rates and enhancing career readiness through practical experiences.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum qualifications to teach any discipline offered at WLAC.
Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds of community college faculty, staff, and students.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Familiarity or experience in one of the targeted industries-healthcare or computer sciences-and their associated academic and career pathways.
Knowledge and experience with project management, partner recruitment and coordination, and report writing.
Experience in career and technical education programs including curriculum development, articulation, planning, career development, labor analysis, and State and Federal Initiatives
Experience with work-based learning and job placement and establishing and maintaining employer partnerships
Project management or coordinator experience, preferably at a community college
Knowledge of community college programs and educational pathways
Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, staff, and faculty.
Learn and implement District policies and procedures, California Education Code regulations, and state and federal laws, and apply sound judgment in a variety of procedural situations.
Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written English.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Establish partnerships with local employers to create and manage work-based learning opportunities, such as internships and cooperative education experiences.
Coordinate placement of students in work-based learning roles, ensuring alignment with their career goals and academic programs.
Create tailored individual and group career advising sessions to assist students in exploring career options and making informed decisions.
Develop job search strategies and resources to connect students with part-time, internship, and full-time employment opportunities.
Provide tailored instruction on resume writing, job applications, and interview preparation.
Guide students in crafting short- and long-term career plans, addressing barriers to employment, and identifying additional support services.
Facilitate workshops and resources aimed at enhancing both technical skills and essential soft skills, including communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and leadership.
Identify and recommend on-campus and off-campus resources to assist students with personal challenges that may affect their academic and career success.
Attend regular meetings with stakeholders, including faculty, administrators, and community partners, to discuss project progress and collaboration.
Prepare and submit regular reports on project activities, outcomes, and impact as required by grant guidelines.
