Job Summary
Under direct supervision of the Oncology supervisor and faculty provide technical support for the Radiation Oncology service. With clinician direction, as a significant portion of daily duties, responsible for treatment of patients with life-threatening illness or injury, whose conditions are likely to change on a moment-to-moment basis, preparing anesthetic protocols, inducing and monitoring anesthesia. In addition, responsible for assisting the clinicians with operation of the Linear Accelerator, quality assurance, and patient treatment.
RECRUITMENT PERIOD ONE MONTH: Applicants will be screened on a weekly basis. The position can be filled prior to the removal date.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Current California Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) license.
Experience pre-medicating, inducing, maintaining, and monitoring patient under anesthesia and applying monitoring equipment.
Experience operating basic anesthesia equipment, i.e., anesthesia machines, ventilators and various monitoring and lab equipment.
Experience with medical terminology and able to communicate verbally, and in writing, with a wide variety of people professionally and diplomatically.
Experience independently providing intense, moment to moment monitoring/reassessment of emergent/critically ill patients.
Interpersonal and oral communication skills to work with a diverse group of people including clients, clinicians, students, and staff.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of radiation therapy procedures, including external beam radiation.
Knowledge of basic oncology diseases.
Assisting with the development of anesthesia protocols appropriate for patients and maintain patients during anesthesia.
Knowledge of diagnostic procedures such as CT, MRI and digital radiography policies governing animal use.

The Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (VMTH) is a unit that provides clinical case material in support of the teaching programs throughout the School of Veterinary Medicine on a 24-hour basis. Its primary objectives are to train professional (veterinary) students, graduate clinical students (interns and residents), and graduate academic students; to provide veterinary services to the public; to serve as a referral center for practicing veterinarians, and to advance veterinary medical knowledge.

Work Environment
Work occasional overtime and various hours on short notice (including covering staff shortages and holiday shifts).

Work under regular exposure to zoonotic diseases, anesthesia, chemotherapy drugs, cleaning chemicals and exposure to radioactive patients.
May be required to wear protective clothing for extended periods of time including: gown, coveralls, gloves, masks, face shields, goggles, sleeves and head covers.
May require working with or around areas with sick animals, hazardous materials, and/or infectious diseases, and distraught clients.
