The Research Community Partnerships and Communications Specialist is a critical member of a team that focuses on leading and promoting interdisciplinary team science and scholarship among Translational Data Analytics Institute (TDAI) faculty affiliates across campus and between TDAI and other university centers and institutes, ultimately contributing to increased success in securing extramural research funding. The Research Community Partnerships and Communications Specialist achieves this end by supporting TDAI programming, namely research facilitation and scientific community management,and research communications.
Research Facilitation and Scientific Community Management
The Research Community Partnerships and Communications Specialist contributes as a member of a team that is responsible for design and execution of various forums for TDAI faculty affiliates to exchange new scientific discoveries and knowledge and to build professional networks of potential collaborators and resources for research, including forums, conferences, seminars, and other talks by internal and external speakers. Research facilitation and scientific community management responsibilities are:
Supporting the Research Development Partnerships Analyst 4 in generating implementation plans for TDAI research development strategies.
Leveraging project management skills by leading or co-leading execution of the implementation plan, including research team building activities such as ideation sessions,
TDAIs annual signature conference (Interdisciplinary Research Fall Forum), seminar speakers series, workshops, among others.
Interfacing with faculty experts and their respective collaborators to better understand the impact of interdisciplinary research.
Designing or co-designing and executingnew programs that meet the evolving needs of TDAIs research community.
Supporting the Research Development Partnerships Analyst 4 in workshops and team science facilitation that may ultimately progress to larger, longer-term efforts.
Serving as an integral member of faculty-led organizing committees for scientific research conferences.
Providing support for administration of the institutes seed grant programs and other research programming that enablefaculty researchers to generate preliminary data and/or form new collaborations that better position them for extramural funding success.
Leading research engagement logistics, including managing and maintaining TDAI spaces.Responsible for leading and managing a team of 3-6 undergraduate student employees that support engagement logistics, space coordination and space maintenance.
Research Communications
Communicating the value of impact of the institutes faculty-led research is critical to establishing and maintaining TDAIs thought leadership in numerous areas relevant to data science. To this end, the position works with faculty to help translate the value of their research efforts for both internal and external stakeholders and for various forums.Research communications responsibilities include:
Leading the development of a marketing and communications plan that aligns with the institutes strategic goals.Conducting analysis of TDAIs current communication practices, target audiences, and existing materials. Identifying strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats related to marketing and communications. Segmenting TDAIs desired audience based on demographics, interests, and communication preferences.Crafting compelling key messages that highlight TDAIs unique value proposition. Tailoring messaging to effectively reach each audience segment.Identifying specific communication channels to reach target audiences and developing content strategies for different target audiences and platforms.
Facilitating internal communication strategies to keep organizational members informed and engaged, ensuring a unified messaging approach in collaboration with leadership.
Supporting business development functions within the institute, in part by securing opportunities with the external community for faculty researchers to tell their stories about the impact of their research.
Generating marketing collateral to support business development activities with industry, government entities, and non-profit organizations, among others.
Leveragingcommunications expertise to lead the writing of compelling stories for broad audiences that highlight the impact of research, scholarship and creative expression conducted by TDAI faculty.
Developing visually appealing communication materials using graphic design principles, standards and tools.
Generating communications materials for research meetings, conferences and events.
Generating content for and maintaining TDAIs digital communications channels (e.g., website, social media, weekly QuickBits newsletter). Publicizing research-related opportunities via OSU and external communication channels.
Required Qualifications
Bachelors degree in the field of communication, journalismor otherrelevant field
2 years of relevant experience with at least 1 year of experience in higher education
1-2 years of experience with science writing and/or communications
Experience with project management
Desired Qualifications
Bachelors degree in fields of communication/journalism anda scientific/technical field
2-4 years of experience in science writing and/or communications
Professional training in team science facilitation methods and project management
Experience supporting business development

The pay range for this job profile is $55,100 - $72,400. The offer for this position will fall within this range based on multiple factors including internal equity, units available budget, and the candidates qualifications.
