Position Information: The California Institute for Telecommunications and Information Technology (Calit2) is a world-class, multidisciplinary research partnership of UC San Diego, UC Irvine and recently joined by UC Riverside. The Calit2 component at UCR serves as a multicampus research instrumentation facility under the direction of Research and Economic Development. The facility provides nanofabrication and electron microscopy services and instrumentation to campus, system, and external users. This is a position for electron microscopy laboratory technician classified as a staff research associate, who will assist the Director of Calit2. Position responsibilities include operation and routine maintenance of the electron and ion beam instruments and all phases of sample preparation and analysis for various types of materials. This person will generally work independently to determine the best methods and techniques required for each application, through experience, research or experimentation. This position includes training and collaboration with users in specimen preparation, CFAMM instrument operation, and related techniques. This person will perform other tasks required for operation and maintenance of the facility as assigned by the Calit2 Director.
The full salary range for the Electron Microscopy Technician is $66,431.27 to $106,830.32 annually. However, the expected salary range for this position is up to $84,282.36 annually. We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs.
Applicants must have current work authorization when accepting a UCR staff position. Currently, we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa for staff.

Educational Requirements
Two year technical certificate, AAS Degree, or equivalent.

Associate degree or higher in electron microscopy.

Experience Requirements
Experience in various methods of sample preparation techniques for electron microscopes and focused ion beam instruments.

Experience in operation and maintenance of vacuum equipment and microscopes.

Knowledge and experience in operation of Focused Ion Beam instruments.
Knowledge and experience in computer and web site maintenance.
Extensive knowledge of sample preparation, chemical reagents and laboratory supplies.
Knowledge of UCR safety protocols.
Knowledge and experience in troubleshooting and repairing electronic and electrical devices.
Demonstrated ability to maintain a clean and orderly laboratory environment.
