Bachelors degree and 5 years of related experience
Preferred Qualifications:
Masters degree
Progressive roles of responsibility, ideally in career services, student affairs, or human resources
Experience supervising professional employees
Track record of building relationships with a variety of stakeholders
Post-secondary teaching experience or experience leading trainings in a business setting
History of supporting individuals through one-on-one coaching, advising, or counseling
Proven ability to plan and execute small- and large-scale programs/events
Comfort leveraging technology relevant to career services
Job Description:
The Ivy College of Business at Iowa State University welcomes applications for the role of assistant director of career services. Reporting to the director of career services, the assistant director supports the offices mission of preparing students for lifelong career success through customized coaching, competency-focused teaching, experience-based learning, and connectivity with industry.
The assistant director will supervise a small team of professional career coordinators. This role will also lead programs which support the departments mission. The assistant director will be trusted to represent and market the college. Additional responsibilities include one-on-one coaching, teaching, event coordination, business development, and data collection.
The assistant director will support Ivys student-focused approach to higher education and should thrive in a dynamic, innovative work setting. The ideal candidate will be a dependable leader who models skills in relationship building, communication, project management, and professionalism.
Example of Duties
Supervise professional staff including hiring, training, coaching, and evaluating
Collaborate with the director to set, carry out, and assess strategic priorities
Build relationships with students, alumni, faculty and staff colleagues, administration, and employer partners
Oversee one or more high profile programs which support the mission of the team
Support students in one or more assigned majors through individual appointments
Teach a professional development in business course to one or more sections each semester
Plan, execute, and evaluate small- and large-scale career events
Collect first-destination information from graduates within six months of graduation
Stay up to date on effective delivery of career services through involvement with professional associations
Level Guidelines Aware of key annual objectives of department or work unit Understands linkage between daily activities and achievement of annual objectives of department/work unit and explains to direct reports Focus on ISUs mission and meeting department or work unit goals Supervises a small department or work team Often is a working supervisor with direct, previous experience performing work of those supervised Has full management responsibility for direct reports, specifically the authority to hire, fire, and counsel; may share part of responsibility with higher level management Requests approval for financial actions beyond a limited scope per policy
