The Collections NAGPRA Staff Assistant provides a variety of complex administrative/support duties to coordinate the activities and communications of the Collections Care and Access Department with a specific focus on collections-related activities associated with Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA) compliance. Reports to the Associate Director for Collections Care and Access.
Position Description
· Provides organizational and administrative support to the Collections Care and Access Department.
· Serves as principal coordinator of department calendars to ensure effective planning and communication around collections-related NAGPRA activities, coordinating with other Peabody Museum departments as needed.
· Attends cross-departmental meetings, taking notes and informing staff of relevant information to ensure a smooth day-to-day flow of communications within the department and between all Museum departments involved in NAGPRA compliance.
· Organizes and implements the department?s master project management application (Asana) ensuring all information is up-to-date and established priorities are clear and effectively communicated.
· Provides data entry, list, and report assistance using the Peabody?s collections management database (The Museum System/TMS).
· Drafts, edits, and proofreads correspondence and other documents.
· Assists with logistical arrangements for community visits to collections as needed, working closely with visit coordination staff.
· Performs other duties as required.
Basic Qualifications
· Three or more years of related experience required; a combination of education and experience may be considered.
Additional Qualifications and Skills
· B.A. degree preferred.
· Understanding of and commitment to the ethical stewardship of museum collections in partnership with Indigenous communities required.
· High-level organizational skills and strong attention to detail are required.
· Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, and to multitask, manage complex projects, and meet competing deadlines.
· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to establish priorities and achieve goals.
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required. This position must always maintain confidentiality and a diplomatic tone.
