What will your work look like?
Collaborating with Capital Project Managers to create highly functioning teams
Supervisory responsibilities including work plan development, professional development/training plans. performance reviews, staff mentorship
Guiding team members on technical aspects of capital project delivery for stormwater infrastructure projects
Collaborating with the Stormwater Services Section to coordinate capital delivery and process improvements
Mentoring junior engineers on project management best practices
Participating in Capital Section and Water and Land Resources Division Committees
Identifying and implementing process improvements
Supporting Stormwater Capital Unit and Capital Section initiatives

About the Team: The Stormwater Capital Unit (SCU) designs, permits, implements and monitors stormwater projects across King County that address flow control, water quality, and aged or outdated infrastructure. SCU has a multidisciplinary staff of engineers, project managers, a landscape architect, and an ecologist with experience in project feasibility, project planning and design, regulatory management, construction procurement and supervision, and project effectiveness monitoring.
We are looking for a compassionate, resourceful and technically skilled team leader who can support our multi-disciplinary teams to advance high priority stormwater projects within the newly formed Capital Section. The ideal candidate is someone who can effectively build project teams and mentor engineers and project managers under their supervision. Additionally, the most successful candidates will have demonstrated experience with stormwater infrastructure project management, capital project delivery, work well with diverse teams, and collaborate effectively with internal and external partners. Qualifications You Bring:
Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, environmental engineering, water resources, environmental science, natural resource management, urban/regional planning, or any combination of education and experience that clearly demonstrates the ability and skills to perform the core work duties of the position.

It Would Be Nice if You Also Bring:
Licensed Washington State professional civil engineering (P.E.) or licensed in another state with the ability to obtain Washington State license through reciprocity.
Advanced knowledge of stormwater design principles and capital project delivery (planning, design and construction).
Experience with supervision of multiple staff, including setting performance expectations, evaluating performance, hiring, coaching, training, recommending pay changes, imposing disciplinary actions, providing recommendations on grievances.
About King County Water and Land Resources Division
The Water and Land Resources Division (WLRD) safeguards King County’s water and land resources by providing services that protect public health and safety and yield significant environmental benefits. WLRD employs scientists, engineers, policy experts, ecologists, and project managers dedicated to protecting the health and integrity of King County’s natural resources, so that they can be enjoyed today and for generations to come.
WLRD provides flood control services, stormwater management, and other natural resource management services throughout the county. Among the division’s responsibilities are managing the stormwater program for unincorporated areas and overseeing the river and floodplain management program, which provides services on all county rivers for the King County Flood Control District (external site). The division houses three salmon recovery forums, acquires open space, restores habitat, monitors water quality, controls noxious weeds, and provides economic and technical support for forestry and agriculture.
Additionally, the division operates the county’s Environmental Lab and Science sections, which provide environmental monitoring, data analysis, and manage...ment and modeling services to partners, jurisdictions, and residents throughout the region. The King County Hazardous Waste Management Program – a collaborative effort with the county and King County municipalities – is also part of WLRD.
