Mount Saint Mary Academy seeks a dedicated, skilled, and experienced Director of Technology with strong project management skills and knowledge of cybersecurity procedures. This is a 12-month, full-time, in-person position, which will begin this March and continue into the 2025-2026 school year.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Director of Technology oversees all information technology and data systems used by the school. This position is responsible for developing and administering the technology budget, monitoring contracted services, supervising vendors, managing the IT Department staff, and maintaining relationships with other departments, school constituencies, and outside organizations. The Director of Technology establishes policies and procedures for the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of all data, networking, computing, and communication systems. This includes the management of equipment and services, data maintenance, network administration, cyber security, and distribution of technology equipment. Additionally, this individual is responsible for monitoring all software and technology assets and their life cycles, preparing the annual technology budget and ordering both hardware and software. This position also provides leadership for short- and long-range planning for all technology initiatives. While the position is technical in nature, about 35% of the position is devoted to project management and planning duties.
JOB DUTIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
Directs school’s technology growth and development in conjunction with the Administration
Develops and monitors annual technology budget, makes decisions about what hardware and software will be purchased
Prepares multi-year budget projections for planning purposes
Administers the schools Microsoft 365 subscription and all related apps/and software including the Azure AD environment
Works with technology vendors to troubleshoot and resolve campus wide issues
Develops, implements and monitors the Academy’s Cyber Security strategy with the assistance of our technology vendor Ricoh
Develops and manages annual summer work schedule and hiring of summer interns
Ensures IT staff is trained on new systems and hardware
Ensures IT department procedures are documented and updated as needed
Ensures IT staff cross trains as appropriate to ensure department continuality
Maintains web filtering software, applies policies and rules as needed
Overall responsibility for the One-to-One laptop initiative, negotiates and maintains lease information and model selection
Annually prepares master computer images for each machine model
Oversees all Classroom AV technology
Oversees Technology Help Desk
Oversees campus telephone system
Oversees the school’s mobile device contract and devices and replacement cycle
Reviews and schedules all tickets submitted to the IT Help system
Maintains software license inventory and ensures all software is properly licensed
Oversees technology asset inventory
Reviews technology asset inventory to determine asset life cycles and replacement schedules
Platform manager for the K-12 system, maintains all security roles and their members, performs annual system rollover tasks, performs data uploads/downloads, creates reports and advanced lists for users, troubleshoots system issues and liaisons with Blackbaud Support personnel
Works with the Database Administrator on Blackbaud projects & initiatives
Works with the Manager of MIS regarding network infrastructure planning and problem resolution
Develops long range network infrastructure plans and related budgets
Works with Academic Technology coordinator to identify Faculty/Staff/Student training needs
Works with Facilities Manager as needed for physical plant issues
Works with Director of Security to resolve security camera issues and building access system issues and support of the Ruvna system
Identifies and researches new technology applications and hardware that may assist the staff and students in technology integration
Networks with other One-to-One schools to identify best practices
Continuously monitors new hardware or software that may be applicable for One-to-One program
Other duties as assigned by the administration
Qualifications:
The Director of Technology must be willing to remain technically competent in an environment that is always in flux. The knowledge and skills required for this position are constantly changing as technology evolves.
Minimum bachelor’s degree, additional education, training, certifications or experience desirable
Broad knowledge of application software, operating systems, database design and administration
Knowledge/experience with educational Student Information Systems (SIS)
Knowledge of network infrastructure and design
Knowledge of Cyber Security threat landscape and mitigation tactics
Knowledge/experience with the Microsoft 365 ecosystem, including Azure AD, Intune, etc.
Strong project management skills including multi-year planning/execution
Strong budgeting skills
Strong written skills
Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of school staff
Ability to lead technology planning efforts
Ability to manage financial resources
Ability to multi-task and monitor many activities at once
Ability to train educators in the use of hardware and software
Work Environment:
On-site in person position; 40+ hours per week; potential to work late night and during school holidays especially for campus wide network projects or classroom projects.
Physical Demands:
Ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds; ability to climb a 4-step ladder; ability to bend and squat under a desk.
