Chapel Hill Country Club, located in Chapel Hill, North Carolina is looking for an experienced and dedicated individual to join their golf course maintenance team as an Assistant Superintendent.
The chosen individual will be responsible for year-round, day-to-day on-site operation and oversight of golf course maintenance and associated administrative functions. He or she will be responsible for staffing and developing regular maintenance staff including foreman, greens keepers, equipment operators, and landscape maintenance staff.
The Assistant Superintendent works closely with the Golf Course Superintendent and will report directly to the Superintendent and the Director of Agronomy.

INITIAL PRIORITIES OF POSITION:
Learn the course irrigation practices and programming
Create relationships with the current team and staff
Work with the Superintendent to schedule and run the crew daily.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND APTITUDE:
Personnel Functions:
Interview, hire, train, terminate, motivate, and effectively direct the work of staff safely and efficiently.
Oversee the completion of daily and weekly work schedules for the Golf Course Maintenance department
Manages and upholds Club Mission and Objectives as detailed in the Golf Maintenance Standards of Operation Manual
Establish a sense of purpose among a diverse work group by encouraging day-to-day commitment to our mission and operating values.
Responsible for ongoing improvements to training programs relating to fertilizer applications, pesticide applications, general safety, and equipment operations.
Golf Course Responsibilities:
Encourage ongoing communication with the Superintendent and Director of Agronomy regarding events, course maintenance, and special course projects.
Possess a working knowledge of warm-season grasses.
Fertilizer applications, including proper calculations, equipment calibration, and record keeping.
Pesticide applications, including proper calculations, equipment calibration, and record keeping.
Ability to identify and treat common turf grass pests, pathogens, and deficiencies
Ability to operate a wide range of equipment (tractors, mowers, spray equipment, rollers, and small equipment).
Irrigation management, spot watering, central computer scheduling, repairs, troubleshooting, and project coordination.
Construction project management.
Work with mechanics to continue to improve maintenance schedules and systems.
Fiscal Responsibilities:
Regularly monitor and report on the progress of goals with the team.
Purchasing of golf course supplies. Run all purchases by the Director of Agronomy before purchasing.
Maintain vendor contact and develop a healthy working relationship.

Educational Requirements
2 Year Degree in Turf Management, Certificate or enrolled in Turfgrass Management or Higher.
Experience Requirements
Experienced preferred as a 2nd Assistant or Assistant in training.
